Here's the lowdown on what happened on the Laan last week:
MONDAY
When Shandre phones Xander, Vince answers and flirts shamelessly with her. Xander does not seem keen on seeing the lovely Shandre making up all kinds of excuses (bet we know why).
Everyone hears the news of Charmaine’s arrest and can’t quite believe that the police would think her guilty of murdering her own grandson.
Ryno arranges for Notnagel to handle Charmaine’s case. Once again Neville is the last one to find out and quickly makes his way to the police station.
Matrone is very proud of her bend-and-stretch exercise article appearing in the Times. She informs everyone to be in Oppiekoffie later in the day so that she can give the young and old a free demonstration in the name of helping out her fellowman.
Xander drops by the boutique to inform Felicity of his firm handling Charmaine’s case and that he’s part of the team. Vince once again interrupts them, bringing Felicity flowers and invites her out on a jol.
Great idea Vince, partying up a storm is just what your girlfriend needs right now.
Felicity declines politely saying she would rather he came by the house but Vince makes it clear that heavy serious matters is not quite his scene.
When Neville visits Charmaine at the station, he comforts her when she tearfully tells him that she can’t believe everyone thinks her guilty.
Everyone is at Oppiekoffie in their active gear ready for Matrone’s revolutionary bend-and-stretch exercise demonstration.
Maria is not happy when she sees what Matrone is up to, she makes her way to Hilda in the deli to tell her what’s going on.
Hilda feels sorry for herself saying she does’nt stand a chance in the Dazzling Dame Competition against Matrone.
Vince decides to put a spanner in the works when he and Marko go over to Oppiekoffie, start exercising and pretend to get such major cramps, Matrone is forced to stop the class.
Carlos and Jan Hendrik discuss Dezi getting her sight back and JH breaks it to Carlos about the problems in his marriage and it seems he and Dezi are just drifting further apart.
Felicity comes back from Charmaine’s court appearance and tells Inge that Charmaine was granted bail. She tells Inge how horrible it was for Charmaine when there was a group of people jeering her for being a baby killer.
When Xander visits Felicity, she’s very emotional and he consoles her in his own sensitive way. If only Felicity can see what is right in front of her.
Vince is at a bar when he sees Nurse Jacqui, not knowing her, he buys her a drink and flirts outrageously with her, much to her delight.
Felicity prepares supper for Charmaine’s homecoming, she tries to tell Vanessa what happened at the court but Vanessa in her stubbornness does not want to hear anything about her mother.
Ryno brings Charmaine home and Felicity gives her a warm welcome. Vanessa on the other hand, gives her mom the cold shoulder.
TUESDAY
Charmaine tells Felicity and Marko that she can’t quite understand why Vanessa is going out of her way to avoid her, instead of talking things through and standing together.
Xander tries to avoid speaking to Shandre and Vince can’t believe his brother would let a sexy hot thing like Shandre slip by. Xander confronts him about cheating on Felicity but Vince feels variety is the spice of life.
Vince is a sneaky slimeball and I’m hoping that Felicity will find out before he breaks her heart.
Everyone speculates about Charmaine but Zinzi in true Francois style exaggerates completely about Charmaine’s phone being tapped, her bail being exorbitantly high, etc.
Charmaine returns to work and everyone is overjoyed at seeing her. There’s a new waitress at Oppiekoffie and she goes by the name of Tessa Krige.
Felicity is blinded by love and only sees the good in Vince, she seems grateful that Vince has’nt dumped her yet for neglecting him. Vince, with his usual charm once again gets out of a date with Felicity in favour of another.
Carlos and Inge discuss the boutiques financial problems and decide to have a meeting the following night with Jan Hendrik.
Matrone ought to be glad Mandla did’nt publish anything about Matrone’s failed exercise session because the Morning Edition had a field day at her expense.
She invites Mandla for supper promsing to cook all his favourite traditional foods and Maria overhears.
George tells Hilda to get a campaign manager who can help her to beat Matrone, he suggests the best person for the job is Paula.
Neville invites Charmaine to have dinner with him and after some persuasion, she relents. Maybe there’s hope for these two afterall.
Matrone bribes Mandla and tells him that if she wins, he has guaranteed himself a seat at the banquet where he can meet the President. A gullible Mandla falls for Matrone’s plan.
Charmaine tells Neville that Vanessa thinks she’s guilty of murdering of Aubrey.
WEDNESDAY
Vanessa, in her attempt to avoid her mother, has once again left early for work.
Felicity remembers the day of Aubrey’s death and tells Marko how upset Charmaine was and said she could’nt handle Aubrey’s suffering any longer.
The two realize that Charmaine was at the clinic because she’s the only one that the police suspect.
When Felicity visits Vince at his home, he invites her out for dinner even though moments earlier he had made a date with his ex-fling from London.
Marko confronts Nurse Bettie about Aubrey and she tells him exactly what happened on the day.
Carlos cancels the boutique meeting with Jan Hendrik because Ewald is ill but JH decides to go ahead and have the meeting with Inge.
Karien shows Marko and Aggie her latest design for “Aggie’s Cleaning Services”. They don’t seem exactly thrilled, arguing about the name but once Karien suggest they go to somebody else, they convince her that they’re completely satisfied with the design.
Jan Hendrik and Inge have their meeting in the boutique, a meeting with snacks and wine might I add. The bank statements and filing is totally a mess as Inge claims she’s ditzy when it comes to these things. JH decides to take the paperwork home so he can scrutinise it carefully.
Hilda in her attempt at getting Paula to agree to be her campaign manager, knits a little “something” for her. Paula eventually agrees but tells Hilda she does it willingly and there’s no need for Hilda to knit little presents for her.
Yeah, we all know Hilda and her knitting, take the dreaded bedsocks she knitted for Ryno last time.
Xander is busy working when Vince and Felicity comes home. They seem to be very lovey dovey and Vince asks Xander to leave them alone, he seems clearly upset by the smooching going on.
Vanessa is working late when Charmaine comes in and confronts her about not believing her. Charmaine again explains that she’s innocent but Vanessa in her rudeness or maybe its guilt, runs out of the room telling her mother she does not want to speak to her.
THURSDAY
Marko informs Felicity about his talk with Nurse Bettie. Vanessa steps into the room unseen, hears what they’re speaking about and eavesdrop at the door.
Marko questions Felicity again about Charmaine but Felicity can’t believe that Marko would think Charmaine guilty.
The guys are in Oppiekoffie discussing ways of meeting girls. The topic of internet chat sites comes up and George gives Altus a pseudonym to use, Boerbul. Altus likes this name as it makes him sound butch and no-nonsense.
Matrone has a soup kitchen for the homeless in the arcarde. Hilda confronts her for stealing her idea but Matrone has one up on Hilda as Mandla takes pictures of the homeless.
Hilda is clearly upset and tells Paula she’s doing nothing as her campaign manager. On the contrary Paula has made flyers and tells Aggie to ensure her friend at the Old Aged Home slips one under each person’s room door without Matrone catching on.
Mmm, methinks the games are about to begin with Hilda and Matrone having Mandla and Paula battling it out for front page.
Felicity tells Inge what Marko found out from Nurse Bettie. She sees the nurse in the arcade, confronts her and Bettie tells her she’s sorry but she just could’nt keep quiet about what she saw.
Hilda prepares herself to outplay Matrone. With Maria’s help, we see boxes being carried out with feather dusters in it.
Aggie tells Karien about her plans for “Aggie’s Cleaning Services”, she wants to go big but Karien tells her to focus on Hillside first.
Maria tries her best to stall Matrone from getting home, she asks for her help in filling out a bank application form.
Meanwhile, Hilda is in her element giving an Ikebana class to the ladies at the Old Aged Home whilst Paula takes snaps.
Nurse Bettie approaches Charmaine in Oppiekoffie, explains exactly what she saw the day of Aubrey’s death and Charmaine tells her she’s not guilty. Bettie says she only told the police she saw Charmaine at Aubrey’s bedside and she did’nt actually see her switching off the machines.
Maria is unsuccessful in stalling Matrone any longer. When Matrone walks into Hilda’s class, she’s totally aghast at what she sees.
Matrone is put in her place when Hilda threatens to expose her for mistreating the old folks and Paula says she would’nt mind giving a blow by blow account of what Matrone said.
Marko joins Charmaine for supper and she tells him about what the nurse said. She finally realizes that somebody did indeed switch off the machines and it was not faulty as she had thought. The big question is who?
Vanessa is at the club looking very worried and somewhat guilty.
FRIDAY
Paula does a quiz in a magazine which suggests she’s heading for spinsterhood. Karien and Zinzi suggest she try meeting somebody on the internet and Paula is horrified at the idea.
Karien arranges a blind date for Paula with a buddy of hers who had recently broken up with his girlfriend.
Hilda boasts about appearing on the front page of the Hillside Times. Matrone in her jealousy, can’t believe that the Times would print such rubbish. She accuses Hilda of everything she herself is guilty of.
Aggie, Altus and Karien brainstorm ideas to promote “Aggie’s Cleaning Services”, while Paula makes snide remarks at Altie’s expense.
Matrone storms into the Times’ offices, confronts Mandla about Hilda’s article appearing on the front page whilst hers appears at the bottom of page six.
Both Mandla and Matrone realize Paula is the culprit and they warn her they will not take this lightly, its WAR.
Jan Hendrik and Inge have another meeting and JH breaks it to Inge that because of incorrect invoicing, it would appear the boutique owes Felicity Fashions.
Now this is something I clearly don’t understand. If Inge was hired to manage the boutique, why is she doing anything but? She’s clearly incompetent to do the job when it’s her job not Carlos or Jan Hendrik’s.
She and Felicity both claim to be ditzy when it comes to financial matters but at least Felicity is the creative one, what does Inge do besides being a saleslady? She’s clearly out of her depth when it comes to managing the boutiques books.
Jan Hendrik tells Inge that they will have to work late and even the weekend to sort things out. Inge asks him about joining Dezi for the weekend and he later phones Dezi to cancel as once again work is more important than his marriage.
I just have to wonder if anything will be happening between JH and Inge, they looked very cosy drinking that wine.
Xander tells Marko that the case does not look good for Charmaine as she was the last one seen and she said countless times how she could’nt bear Aubrey’s suffering any longer.
When Xander sees Vince and Felicity kissing in the arcade, he goes to Altus in Oppiekoffie and tells him he’s ready to try internet dating. Altie logs on as Boerbul and Xander as Die Grote.
Vanessa opens up to Hilda about her feelings of loneliness since Aubrey died. She says she wishes she could turn back time just to hold him in her arms again.
Paula is done up to the nines for her date with Brian, Karien’s friend.
Charmaine and Hilda are enjoying a hanepoot when Hilda tells her about Vanessa’s feelings and what she said. She also mentions about the toys Vanessa bought Aubrey the day of his death and how she said she would be going back to the clinic to give it to him.
It dawns on Charmaine the possibility of Vanessa going back to the clinic the day of her baby’s death.
Paula comes back from her date with Brian, feeling very disappointed. She tells Karien the date started out as a dream and ended in a nightmare when all he could talk about was his ex-girlfriend.
Charmaine quietly watches Vanessa busy in the kitchen, she goes back into the room, comes out again, ponders the news that Hilda just told her.
Could it be, could it possibly be that Vanessa killed her own baby?
