Coming up on Carte Blanche this Sunday (13 September 2026):

Rugby Fan Rivalry

For decades, South Africa and New Zealand have battled for rugby supremacy. But in Cape Town, a fiercely loyal group of supporters are challenging what it means to be South African... and sparking a bitter rivalry.

Born and bred locals, they support our greatest rivals on the pitch.

The reason is deeply entrenched in our country’s divided history - and generations later, the clash between Bok fans and the Cape Crusaders represents an ongoing debate about history, loyalty and national identity.

Producer: Greg Nelson
Presenter: Macfarlane Moleli

Illicit Trade: Tobacco

They’re cheap, readily available and profitable. Illicit cigarettes make up most of our tobacco market, costing billions in lost revenue every year.

A special investigation finds counterfeit cigarettes for sale in backroom spaza shops and affluent suburbs, and reveals that most are manufactured inside licensed local factories.

As a shadow economy meets legitimate business, smugglers, manufacturers, and law enforcement collude to control supply and set prices.

And when multibillion-rand profits are threatened, violence results.

Producer: Ogivly
Presenter: Govan Whittles

The Crossing

Nothing stands between you and your goal except your own mind... and maybe the odd jellyfish.

That’s what Amber-Rose Berry demonstrated when she became the youngest South African woman ever to swim the English Channel, braving 43 km of cold, choppy salt water between England and France.

She’s one of around 2,000 people ever to make the crossing alone. But Amber is no stranger to challenges - or breaking records - and she’s had her eye on this prize for a long time.

Carte Blanche travels with Amber and her mom to Dover to tell her story in her own words.

Producer: Tarryn Crossman

Premiere episodes of Carte Blanche air on M-Net on Sundays at 19h00 and are on Catch Up afterwards.
