Coming up on
Kelders van Geheime:
Amanda Strydom as Surina Viljoen.
She debuts on Tuesday 14 October, with Christia Visser who plays her daughter Lallie Viljoen.
This from Amanda on Surina:
Amanda: “This role is undoubtedly one of the most challenging I’ve ever had to play. She’s a greedy, manipulative witch who does the most terrible things. I just hope people still buy tickets to my own shows after they’ve seen me as this monster of a woman!”
According to Amanda, she was terrified reading the script but then realised it was a unique opportunity to fully use her training as an actress.
Amanda: “I earned my Drama degree at Tuks in 1978, but people mainly know me as a singer. Surina's a bitter, poor white woman who believes the world owes her everything. I did my best to get under her skin, but heaven knows it wasn’t easy. She’s everything I’m not - and that’s the greatest challenge for any actor.”
On finding time to film:
Amanda: “I’m grateful that my agent, Belinda Kruger, kept her head, because after 46 years in the industry, finally working with my icon, Sandra Prinsloo, is a dream come true!”
TV facts:

Amanda played Belinda on two seasons of Binnelanders, between 2016 and 2020.

She was in the 2011 kykNET drama series Hartland where she played Christine Swanepoel, a character who has a dark secret that shakes the foundations of a dominees family.
