These are The Popular TV Shows on DStv Today (19 June 2025), with our commentary:
Season 47 of Survivor is in the No. 1 position and has been the whole week.
It premiered on M-Net on 5 June at 18h00 and it's almost the latest season.
Season 48 ended in America on the 21 May 2025 so we're more than a season behind unfortunately.
We really,
really need M-Net to do this show as an Express from the US, especially with the momentous Season 50 coming up.
It's subtitled In The Hands of the Fans because American fans voted for various aspects of it while Season 48 was airing.
Elements they could vote on included the design of the Immunity Idols, how powerful they want the advantages to be and whether or not they want a lot of twists or for strategy to be all important.
The season's cast has recently been revealed and consists of 24 returning players, making it the largest cast since the start.
Season 49 premieres in the US later this year, meaning there's time for us to catch-up before Season 50 which airs next year.
In other words, it's a PERFECT set-up for it to become an Express from the US series.
Season 2 of Shaka iLembe is in the No. 2 spot in the wake of
it's premiere on Mzansi Magic on Sunday 15 June. It's been at No. 3 for the past two days and moved up to 2 today.
If you've missed the teasers for it, you'll find them here:
New! Shaka iLembe 2 Teasers - June 2025
The Box Set is in third place and includes both Seasons 1 and 2 - obviously boosted by slapgats who didn't watch the first season and want to catch-up now.
It's been at No. 4 for the past two days and moved up to 3 today.
kykNET's long-running medical soapie Binnelanders takes fourth place, revealing that longetivity and dedicated fandom matters.
As with Survivor, Binnelanders has been on for 20 years and Survivor for 25.
Binnelanders is slumming it in this position today because it's regularly in position No. 1.
Aha! Our cricketing victory is in fifth place and it's a big deal because we haven't seen a sporting event in the Top 5 yet.
When you tune into it, it contains highlights from the recent 2025 ICC World Test Championship final between us and Australia.
Highlights from each of the four days, a Test Wrap and a clip of Aiden Markram reaching 100 runs.
Shows in positions 6 to 10 are:
6
Inimba
7
Diepe Waters
8
Suidooster
9
iThonga
10
Landman
Notable mention:
Mzansi Magic telenovela Inimba's also slumming it at No. 6. It's regularly been at No 2 since its premiere in April but hasn't reached No 1. We'll keep you posted if it does.
