Special notes
We didn't want to publish this dear reader because of what a concerning yawn fest they are. All of the country's top shows slumped because of the relentless Stage 6 loadshedding coupled with the holidays.
Specifically: Uzalo, Generations: The Legacy, Skeem Saam, Muvhango, Scandal!, House of Zwide, The Black Door, Imbewu and Durban Gen, which lost a jaw dropping
4,776,251 viewers between them, from
November to December.
Interesting to note: Gomora remained stable with a small increase of 5,318 viewers and Isono on e.tv miraculously managed an increase of over 100,000 viewers between November and December.
Also, The Wife on Mzansi Wethu attracted a healthy 503,368 viewers in its premiere month on the channel.
Ultimately though, these numbers are becoming less and less representative of what's actually happening with shows overall.
They represent the number of viewers who tuned in on the night, at the time of the show, but people would have caught up on their favourites via Catch-Up or eVOD or DStv Now or the newly launched SABC+, which aren't represented in these Broadcast Research Council numbers.
They're going to have to find a way of representing this too in order to remain relevant.
That said, there's still such a joy in everyone watching at the same time, on the night, and we deeply hope to experience a strong sense of community and togetherness once again.
