ProVerb at last weekend's Pretoria auditions.

The Idols producers have eventually woken up to fact that they need to extend their search beyond the few same-old cities they visit each year.

The pop-up auditions in various centres are gone this year, replaced by online auditions for people round the country.

If you have internet access, you can enter.

This is what you need to know if you'd like to audition:

Your audition video

You'll be able to submit an audition video on the Idols website for a period of 48 hours. Applications open at midnight on Tuesday, 25 February 2020 and close on Thursday, 27 February.

Your video should be 30-seconds long, with singing only. No introductions to yourself or any talking.

You also can't include instruments otherwise the selectors won't be able to hear you.

You can sing your own song.

Here's a link to the website where you'll be able to submit on the day: Idols SA

What to submit

You need the include the following info. with your audition:

1. Your full name,
2. SA ID Number,
3. Contact phone number,
4. Contact e-mail address,
5. Where you live at the moment.

What to expect

Once your audition has been submitted, an automated email response will be sent to you saying that the audition has been received.

You'll receive a further email informing you whether your audition was successful or not.

If successful, you'll be invited to audition in person in front of the Idols judges.

You can still enter online if you've been to an audition already this season.

You can also go to a physical audition if you've entered online.

All other rules for entering Idols still apply.

Rules, Ts and Cs

I like that the auditions are moving to the internet like this but I don't like the time limit of 48 hours. It makes the auditions too reliant on tech. Let's hope the website copes!
