These are the primetime adult television viewing figures for December 2019:

Special notes

Viewership for 2019's Miss World and Miss South Africa was almost exactly the same.

The viewership for Miss South Africa was 471,906 viewers when it aired on Mzansi Magic in August.

Just over 7,500 viewers more than Miss World's 464,189 viewers on SABC3.

Miss Universe, which aired on 1Magic on 9 December, must have had under 369,473 viewers because it's a no-show in DStv's Top 30.

What does it mean? Viewers aren't flocking to watch pageants on TV.

Miss Universe was broadcast at something like 02h00 or 03h00 AM on a work day (due to the time zones), I think this should explain the low viewership. Otherwise there was a huge interest on this particular pageant due to Zozi's popularity.

I see theres a slight drop to Skeem Saam

I just checked the previous ratings, Skeem Saam has actually been on a steady decline for the past 5 months........

Good point Timone. If they'd aired a delayed broadcast on Vuzu in the evening it would have made a ratings appearance. Maybe on 1Magic too but the channel's never made the Top 30 so unlikely.

The Vuzu rebroadcast happened almost a week later (on Sunday 15th at 20h00) and it was a no-show too because it was too long after.

It created a situation where the majority of people expressed their interest and watched through social media and the media instead of watching it on TV.
