Oos, I thought I posted! ... Micayla's Whitney Houston - I have no clue why anyone would choose a Whitney for a competition 'cos you can only come off sounding second best.

What I've come to realise after a few seasons of watching Idols is that song choice is as critical as the actual talent in this competition.  Contestants need to be smart about song choice. With that said, I'm scared for Micayla, Nolo and Sneziey, not because these are bad songs but because it is 2019 and there is a certain age group the follows Idols and more especially the age group that votes.  Also songs that are not very well known, like the twins' song choices, tend to have an effect of causing a disconnect with viewers/voters.  People look forward to the Idol's delivery and interpretaion of the song and at times also want to sing along, now how does a viewer do all this when they don't know the song being sung?  I look forward to Mmangaliso and Nqobile's performances.

@ Tashi its very risky indeed but there are people who have killed Whitney songs before, so it can be done. But ja, very risky.

That XO song by beyonce is so stale I really hope Nqobile is leaving this Sunday I can't even begin to imagine her singing that song

Great song choices for most of them. Micayla choosing a Whitney song will go one of two ways: She nails it and has the performance of the night or the song swallows her whole. She's brave.

She did well with it I thought. Not swallowed whole but in charge of it and seemed to stay in tune when the big moments came.

My only concern was in the quieter moments, she was a bit too nasal but she definitely had the vocal range.

PS: When it comes to assessing whether they're staying in tune or not I go with the cringe factor, if I don't cringe they're in tune, if I do, they're not.
