Casting Call for BBC Lifestyle's new blind dating reality show

The dating reality show craze continues this month with the arrival of another international dating format: First Dates.

BBC Lifestyle has commissioned a local version of the British series to be produced by reality stalwarts Rapid Blue (Come Dine With Me SA, Dancing with the Stars).

The channel's currently airing the Australian version on Sunday nights at 20h00 as a warm-up to our local debut. They'll also be airing the British one before our one starts.

If you aren't familiar with it, it's simple: couples go on blind dates at a restuarant and afterwards they give their feedback, saying whether or not they want to see each other again. Each episode features a crowd of couples licking their chops round a free supper and each other.

If you'd like to try your luck at finding someone tasty, this is what you need to know:

Application must-knows

You must be 18-years-old or older to apply and you need to be a South African resident living in Joziburg Cape Town or Durban.

Filming will take place in July 2019.

If your application is successful, the show will match you up with a partner after interviewing you to find out who you're looking for.

Who is the show looking for?

According to the series executive producer Ed Worster of Rapid Blue:

“We love the authenticity of the First Dates format. Our job is to find the perfect match for each of our daters and we really hope that true love might follow their first encounter.

Once we’ve set them up, it’s over to the couples to see if there’s any chemistry or a spark between them. We’ll be looking for big characters, the unexpected, the novice daters and the players, eligible guys and ladies, the beautiful and the quirky, the young and the old.

Hopefully sparks will fly in the First Dates South Africa restaurant and showcase a hugely entertaining experience that will resonate with all our viewers.”

How to apply

Applications open today (25 March 2019) and close at midnight on Sunday 28 April 2019.

You can apply on BBC South Africa's website here: First Dates Applications (Click on the First Dates heading and you'll get the application form)

If you're entering, good luck - we hope they pair you up with someone delish.

One date at a restaurant is okay  - MUCH better than pathetic Married at First Sight. The amount of effort those couples have to put in is beyond ridiculous!!

At least with this one you can go on one date and that's it, but with Married you have to spend months suffering if you get hooked up with a loser. It's just too much of a risk.
