All-star cast to headline eExtra's first local series Ambitions

It seems that e's on a mission to mimic DStv's shenanigans by airing shows that you can only see if you tune into the channel they want to you.

They did it with Hustle on the defunct eKasi+ and now it's eExtra.

On Sunday, 1 July eXtra debuts a new local production Ambitions, which will air exclusively on the channel.

It's taking on the 21h00 timeslot and they've brought in an all-star cast for it.

Mfolozi Street and Is'thunzi star Zikhona Bali headlines as ambitious investigative journalist Qhawe Ledwaba, who uncovers a career-making story that has real world political relevance.

She's joined by former Scandal! star Kagiso Modupe, Nokuthula Ledwaba, Solomon Sebothoma, Yonda Thomas, Peter Sephuma, Luzuko Nteleko and Mam' SomGaga, Mary Twala.

This description from the official synopsis:

Ambitions follows the journey of the young investigative journalist when she discovers that the displaced community of Supingstad are living in squalor on the back on broken promises by their government.

She finds that the community has yet to receive the housing and facilities promised to them as compensation for their removal from their informal settlement to make way for the building of a new clinic.

In the world of big business and ‘tenderpreneurship’, Qhawe knows there is more than meets the eye and sets out to uncover the story that will cement her career as an investigative journalist.

When the community is mobilised by its leaders, Gauteng’s Goliaths aim to crush them with threats, manipulation and murderous actions.

However Qhawe and the community are not such willing pushovers. Can they unite and defy, or will they quake under the fear and weight of these inglorious heavyweights?

Repeats will air on eExtra on Wednesdays at 21h30.

I saw the trailer of this show and it looks promising. But I must say, I see the lack of believe that eTV has on its tv shows. Its appalling. I mean, first it was Hustle - which was first aired on eXTRA, then Broken Vows - which was also chucked to eXTRA and now it Ambitions. The channel itself doesn't believe that these shows will get the ratings that's the reason why they broadcast them on eXTRA, where they know one one will be watching. How is it possible for people to watch a tv show that the channel doesn't believe in? Why commission the show in the first place if they know its sub par? Or is it that the channel is afraid that it the tv shows wont pull the numbers based on timeslot? I don't understand the logic behind all that, especially on the numbers part. In May etv introduced a competition, a motivator to viewers to stay up and watch the primetime tv shows on the channel, it was the competition that made Imbewu to record the biggest numbers, people where motivated and they had a reason to stay up at through the whole month of May to watch eTV primetime shows. I know Moja Love has paid twitter and promo twitter all over their shows to keep them trending, in doing so, they drawing in viewers. [And as much I hate promo/paid tv twitter, Moja Love is doing something to market their shows]. Etv has to do something, because who wants to watch a tv show that the channel itself doesn't believe in?

Lol. I'm literary catching up on the latest episode of Ambitions right now, and Thwala is gay, or is he bisexual? My question is, does his wife know this? I didn't see that one coming. What a revelation. Lol. What an unlikely, yet an interesting trait for a cold villian to have. I said this about Philip Steyn in Swartwater. So captivating! All villains sure do have weaknesses, now i am trying to figure out what is Butshingi aka Chicotte weakness? Was he the Apartheid spy?
