Lerato Kganyago quits LIVE Amp after SAFTAs win

The dust hasn't settled on Lerato Kganyago's Golden Horn yet and already she's putting LIVE Amp in her back mirror.

Lerato, who first claimed her fame on Soweto TV, has called it quits on SABC1's LIVE Amp after a two-year presenting stint to pursue "other career interests".

The news comes less than a month after fans put her in the driving seat when they voted for her to win Best Presenter at the 2018 SAFTAs and now SABC1 on Friday nights doesn't look so appealing anymore, especially when all you've got for company is DJ Warras.

Don't get us wrong, he's Warrable, but two years is a long time to see him at the start of your weekend.

Of course Lerato speaks fondly of the show and was quoted as saying this in a statement by SABC1:

"Co-hosting Live AMP has been the most incredible and fulfilling ride of my entertainment career thus far. However two years in the same spot is a little too long for a Soweto girl like me who is always looking for a new challenge.

I will forever be indebted to SABC 1 and Urban Brew for allowing me the unparalleled opportunity to showcase my talents on the country’s premium music entertainment offering”

The SABC muscled in by mentioning their role in her success, describing the broadcaster as having "contributed immensely" to her career. This from SABC's Head of Public Relations Zandile Nkonyeni:

“Her commitment to the show is evident in her recent SAFTA win. We are grateful that as a public broadcaster we have contributed immensely in her television career and are proud to have had Lerato as part of the Live AMP family.

We wish her well and we would like to thank her for her commitment to Live AMP and SABC1 over the years.”

Lerato amps out of LIVE on Friday 18 May.
