Generations snubs SAFTAs 2018

Tuck into your popcorn peeps, SAFTAs 2018 is gonna be one helluva show if these developments are anything to go by...

Generations: The Legacy has officially snubbed the awards and won't be seen on any of the nominee lists this year, including the public vote for Most Popular Soapie:

The nominees for this category were announced this week in the build-up to the announcement of all the nominees on Friday, 2 February.

Interesting to note is that Skeem Saam entered this year after last year's boycott alongside Muvhango.

It's no surprise that Muvhango still isn't on the list because we all know that Duma Ndlovu's production company Word of Mouth Pictures has had huge issues with the awards for years and now Gen producer Mfundi Vundla has joined the rebellion.

TVSA asked for comment on why Gen hasn't entered and we received this statement from the show's publicist Gaaratwe Mokhethi:

We have been entering the SAFTAS since the inception of Generations: The Legacy in 2014, hoping our talent will be recognized but unfortunately our cast hasn’t received such recognition from the SAFTAS. We opted not to submit entries for SAFTAS12.

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our growing share in viewership and would like to thank our viewers for making us one of the biggest shows in the country; it’s their consistent recognition that propels us to keep telling ground breaking stories that create a discourse in our society.

Well done Generations! Who values awards that lack credibility anyway! I was wondering why Morula pictures entered for the previous ones.

Every year when the SAFTAS nominees come out there's questions surrounding their credibility and a general discontent. This year will be no different. Expect etv and Mzansi Magic to get all the relevant nominations in the soapie and drama categories. Expect Skeem Saam and Uzalo to once again go home crying malcontent. It's the saftas for you.

Scandal is a high quality show that visibly gets snubbed EVERY year. When will they get tired and protest? lol

The SAFTAs are the biggest joke in the entertainment industry, it's a pity that they are the only television and film awards body in the country, so we're somewhat forced to take them seriously.

I agree about Scandal!, it is probably the best soapie in the country, even their weak storylines are perfected by great pace and acting. It's consistency and outstanding cast give it that "thing" that many soapies lack. I will never understand how they continue to be so overlooked.

I bet they will continue awarding Isidingo. The show is good but a little overrated, if you ask me. It lacks consistency, unlike Scandal! And the cast do well but I have never seen them in a situation where they use complex acting abilities, lol I can even act on Isidingo, because of it's lack of emotion. They have so many good storylines, but weak acting. Not bad acting, no. Just weak. That said, I would hope they win Best Soapie because they are very bold and tackle stories that have hardly been touched. They are good storytellers.

I'm sure Skeem Saam will win the popular vote just like they did a couple of years ago. It's the most popular show among the youth and they have a dedicated fanbase who will vote for them.
I'm not sold on the whole "internet/ social media" popularity of Mzansi Magic shows like The Queen. I don't see them getting enough votes here.

7de Laan may also be a dark horse, didn't it win this same award for multiple consecutive years? They also have a very dedicated fanbase who have a lot of voting power. I can see them winning this.

Rhythm City deserves nominations for it's spectatular cast. If there isn't an award for Best Cast/ Casting... They better create it!

Muvhango is one of the worst soapies in the country, if not the worst. I don't see them ever being well received critically. They need to sit down!

Now, Generations The Legacy. Sigh! I had no idea they submitted for three consecutive years without a single nomination. Ouch! I'm a big fan, but I wouldn't award the show for Best Soapie though, but I don't understand how they have such underrated actors. The acting is brilliant and needs to be recognised. No one on television put out a better performance than Pearl Monama during the past year and she continues to get snubbed... Eh...!!??? Four very talented actors deserve recognition for their spectacular performances.

Vusi Kunene for Lead actor in a soap/ drama (whatever the category is called).
Moopie Mothibeli for Supporting Actor.
Pearl Monama for Supporting Actress.
Thando Thabethe for Supporting Actress.

There are others who do well (Rapulana Seiphemo, Chiedza Mhende, Mnqobi Duma, Manaka Ranaka) but those four listed are stand outs!
But anyways, SAFTA's should continue doing their thing. I think that there's a lot of fatigue and hate for Mfundi Vundla/ Generations in the television industry, especially after the Generations16 saga. They might think that the show painted the industry in a bad light and would'nt want to reward them.

I agree @Zondwa, Gen doesn't deserve best soapie at all but some of their actors are beyond phenomenal and deserve noms and awards! And yes, TV big wigs hate Mfundi for firing the 16. They hate him even more for succeeding with GTL! Mzansi Magic soapies are trashy and completely over the top. They remind me of those Colombian telenovelas. Scandal is sooooo much better than them. But just watch The Queen beat Scandal or some bullsh*t like that.

this is really sad, I've never supported the Saftas but I know a lot of people take them seriously because they're the only TV/film awards in SA. Generations has an amazing cast so I don't get why they keep getting snubbed. muvhango is meeeer, scandal+the queen and isidingo are quality. fan faves are isibaya, 7de laan n skeem Saam. I hope uzalo gets nothing lol

Goku I think the Royalty Soapie Awards were gonna be taken seriously if they would have been televised coz I know she got support from her peers even mfundi himself supported them
