I've always been mad about fashion and sewing and creating my own stuff - the problem is that I don't have enough time to do it!
Every weekend I vow that I'm going to get out my sewing machine to create something fabulous and before I know it, the weekend's gone and I haven't had a mo.
This is why my ears pricked when I heard about the second season of Ayanda on the [ED] channel on DStv (190) and GOtv (65). It follows the fashion exploits of 24-year-old aspiring designer Ayanda Nhlapo.
The first season focused on careers in the fashion industry and the new season uncovers the inner workings of the fashion industry in South Africa so it covers things like fabrics, forecasting trends, buying for stores etc. It starts this Monday (1 August) at 18h55 and it's called Ayanda: Inside Fashion.
Ayanda studied at the National School of Performing Arts and was discovered by ED when they were looking for a presenter to host a career show. She hosted two shows on the channel - Career Mapping and Career Mapping - before landing her own series with them.
She also won SABC3's Young Designers' competition in 2014 so she's very Project Runway which inspired me to get in touch with her to soak up some fashion chatter and to ask her to share her Top 3 style tips.
Here's what she had to say:
1. Create your own trends and rock them confidently.
2. Add your own personality - this makes you original and eccentric.
3. Be your own muse. By that I mean, we tend to find inspiration from different kinds of people or personalities or fashion icons or different artworks so we tend to idealise or make those people our muses. So my advice would be something that I do - I look within for inspiration. I inspire myself.
