So!... we have the answer to the BIG Mzansi Magic question of 2016: what's going to replace The Road and Zabalaza when each of them ends?

Mzansi Magic has confirmed that two new telenovelas will start in their place. The finer details of each show still have to be finalised but we can spill the scenarios of each because these are signed and sealed.

The Road ends at the end of March and Ke Thaba Bosiu replaces it in April. This is the working title for it right now so it might change. (UPDATE: the show became known as Greed & Desire).

The title refers to a hotel in Bloemfontein, which is where it's set. It's produced by Ochre and it's a suspense drama that centres round a man from a wealthy Bloem family who's had enough of his father. In fact, he's so over him he strangles him in a fit of rage. Yip! Daddy's dead and the impact has far reaching consequences, specifically on the family.

The Contenders (also a working title) replaces Zabalaza after it ends in April and it's very different from Ke Thaba'. It's produced by Penguin Films and it's a love story about two love triangles that span three families and two generations. The series is about the secrets, lies and betrayals that have resulted from the passion triangles. (UPDATE: the show became known as Ring of Lies).

No casting details are available yet because they're both still finalising the casts - we'll keep you posted once this has been confirmed.

Not another telenovela! Can't Mzansi Magic invest in more reality shows or game shows? They're cheaper to produce surely and you don't have to wait a whole year for the conclusion. I wish Mzansi Magic could revive The Gen Game, Lilizela Mlilizeli, Million Rand Money Drop, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire SA? The Weakest Link and Out Of The Box at least.

And I am pretty sure the cast of both telenovelas shall comprise of an all black cast. This industry is shamelessly discriminative.

I'm here for Bongi Ndaba's and Portia Gumede's Greed and Desire. Two powerful women coming together to create a show. I love it already.

@Showtime i couldnt agree with you more and sometimes its difficult for us black ppl to point out some injustices against white people. I cant imagine how they feel the industry is very small and limited for them as if they dont share the same story/country with us

I am a huge fan of Bongi Ndaba's work .I loved her writing on old Generations and on shreds and dreams .I am pretty sure Greed and desire will be amazing .the worry is its competing with scandal on etv and it has a loyal following .so not many ppl will switch channels as we saw with the the Road.
