Confirmed! No Big Brother Africa 2015

TVSA can confirm that Big Brother Africa has been cancelled for 2015. Unbelievable but oh-so-true.

A reliable insider close to the show has confirmed to us that the show definitely won't be happening this year.

News about the cancellation first started emerging from Ghana after the manager of MultiChoice Ghana, Anne Sackey, told Razz newspaper that the series won't be happening.

She didn't give an official reason but speculated that it has to do with lack of sponsorship, a bizarre and surprising situation considering how popular the show is.

According to our mole, other reasons could have contributed to the cancellation too, specifically the logistical difficulties the show faced last season. As you may remember, contestants from Ghana, Sierre Leone and Rwanda were forced to stay home when the new South African visa restrictions made it impossible for them to enter South Africa on time. Then, the house burned down before the season started.

This year's season would have been the 10th so it should have been a Very Big Deal. It seems the production and M-Net feel that the production doesn't have the logistical chops it needs to pull off the milestone this year.

An official statement will be released about it soon - we'll keep you posted when it is.

So this is the statement from M-Net... clearly they're focusing on the regional versions to avoid the logistical problems:

"M-Net has announced that while regional Big Brother shows are being produced, including Big Brother Angola and Big Brother Mzansi, the continental version of the show is currently on hold.  Big Brother continues to captivate audiences in each market in which it is produced, and the move to regionalise the show allows producers to re-evaluate the direction of the show.

M-Net wish to thank Big Brother Africa fans for their continuous support and assure them that in the future further announcements will be made."
