SABC 1 loses its X Factor

You've been asking for news on what's happening with the X Factor SA and we have the answer. TVSA can confirm that it won't be back on SABC1 this year.

It hasn't been cancelled but it is uncertain whether or not it will ever be back. This from the channel's Head of Bouquet Maijang Mpherwane:

To be sure, the X Factor SA is still of value to the channel. However we have had to re-assess our broadcast schedule priorities and take a business decision not to include the X Factor in our schedule this year.

We assume that "business decision" means that there isn't a budget for it so its future is at the mercy of finances.

We asked series producer Kee-Leen Irvine of Rapid Blue for comment on the situation and this is what she had to say:

We are in discussion with the channel for 2016/2017.  X Factor is still the world’s most successful singing competition and it was such a success locally that it will most certainly be back on South African screens.

If you were planning to audition, we suggest you keep brushing up your pipes during the year in case it returns next year.

I won't miss the show .personally I think this talent shows are a waste of space cz this contestants never take advantage of the free marketing amd publicity .they win and u never hear from them again .Four has being recording their album since december ,even now they don't have a popular single on radio .

I was rooting for Four, and i can't believe they just dissapeared and not take advantage of the SABC's strong media hold. If they show does come back i hope Andile will be replaced with a new presenter

@Ronda this talent shows don't work here in SA cz this singers have to be something special for us to take them seriously .u can just sing an RnB song nje or some house tune .u really have to that talent that can compete with the likes of Bucie, casper nyovest ,AKA n the likes .Andile was just terrible as host even Nolly Nols did a better job as host of sing OFF SA .
