Mad Movies and acclaimed TV series on VIDI in May

VIDI, South Africa’s premiere video on demand entertainment service, releases some fabulous movie fare  as well as two acclaimed television series on the service in May.

Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated Meryl Streep, leads an all-star cast in the recent box-office smash Into the Woods, a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales in a musical format. It follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel - all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them. (May 4)

Also new on VIDI in May is the Mad Max trilogy - Mad Max, Mad Max 2: Road Warrior and Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome.  These classic films have had a huge following ever since their release in the late 70s and early 80s and they had a lasting influence on apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction ever since. (all from May 15)

On the television front, VIDI is very proud to announce the launch of two acclaimed series in May:

In Plain Sight, a series that has a huge following in the US.  It stars Mary McCormack (ER, The West Wing) as a US Marshal in the witness protection programme who spends her time relocating federal witnesses.

Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she works with her partner to place criminals and innocent witnesses into new lives. When not putting her life on the line to protect federal witnesses, she attempts to manage her dysfunctional family, including her overly dependent mother and younger sister, both of whom live with her.

Whitechapel -  set in 2008, the show revolves around a modern police force fighting an old adversary. A series of bloody, tragic and impossible crimes would suggest someone is carrying out copycat Jack the Ripper murders. The murders are investigated by three unlikely heroes: Chandler (Rupert Penry Jones), a fast-tracked, media savvy DI on his first big murder case; Miles (Philip Davis), nearing retirement, a front-line, hard-bitten DS, and Buchan (Steve Pemberton), the eccentrically brilliant Jack the Ripper tour guide.

Some of the other new feature film titles on VIDI launching in May include the locally made A Lucky Man; two Denzel Washington movies, American Gangster and Training Day; The Jackal with Bruce Willis, Richard Gere and Sidney Poitier; Monster - with Charlize Theron; and  Yes Man with Jim Carrey and Bradley Cooper.
