As we reported from the SABC Upfronts last week, big changes are happening on SABC1, 2 and 3 this month. They take effect on SABC1 after the World Cup and begin today (1 July) on SABC3. SABC2 continues to fluctuate over the World Cup and the new schedule will begin properly once the Cup ends.

We'll be taking a close-up look at the impact on each channel in a three-part series, starting with SABC3 today. Some changes happen instantly whereas others are being introduced over time.

"By February next year you'll have a totally different SABC3,"
- Aisha Mohamed at the SABC Upfronts.

According to SABC3's Head of Channel Aisha Mohamed, the changes to the channel will be implemented from now through to next year. The channels branding will change from blue (no date confirmed for this yet) and the Primetime evening programming will go through dramatic changes, starting today.

Isidingo

Isidingo changes time from 19h30 to 19h00 permanently.

Numerous SABC2 shows move to SABC3

Various Afrikaans properties on SABC2 move to SABC3 namely: Swartwater, 50/50, Fokus and possibly Pasella (we're waiting for confirmation).

When Jam Sandwich returns it will also move to SABC3.

7de Laan, Mooiloop and Noot vir Noot remain on SABC2.

Afrikaans news

The Afrikaans News moves from SABC2 to SABC3 in the 19h30 slot, Mondays to Sundays. As you'll see from the schedule details below, weekend broadcasts start from 19 July.

English news halved

The English news makes up the time by returning to being half an hour instead of the endless hour. It remains at 18h30, weekdays.

Friday night 20h00 South African variety slot

The new schedule introduces a new Friday night slot for South African variety shows. Noot vir Noot warms up the timeslot this week and the new season of Strictly Come Dancing takes over from Friday, 18 July. Noot vir Noot then returns to SABC2 on 18 July.

Hi everyone, a heads-up that Noot Vir Noot is staying on SABC2. It's on SABC3 until after the World Cup and then it returns to 2.
