The Amstel Golden Hour featuring AKA and JR took place in Chaf Pozi at the Power Park towers, Soweto on Sunday.
It was nothing major, just a small chill session. My beef with the gig is that many of the people there were lost in translation, I even overheard a group of people asking who AKA was and they only stood up and danced when JR performed his last song, the overly popular "Make the circle bigger." In 2011 ne...
Anywhoo, for those of you who don't know who AKA is. Here he is:
My friend also didn't know who AKA was and her comment was, quote "For someone who's not known he sure is arrogant." Ouch, but I felt he was ok, afterall he agreed to take a photo. Right?
I was hoping people would atleast recognise his most played track right now, Victory Lap. Eish, it was just a sound of crickets....
Kabomo was the MC and he did a good job. He's due to release an album soon. Let's hope people will identify with his music.
The main act was JR. He's such a crazy character and was telling me how he loves Mogodu (that's tripe). Check out the bling bling chain or is it neck piece. Even the rings are bling, he's just missing a couple of gold teeth to complete the look.
JR is a serious "majaivane," he's seriously energetic. Then in the middle of the performance he called up some girl up on stage...
Then things got heated and the stage lights were dimmed. I don't know if it was part of the performance but it was not good for our cheap cameras.
JR killed it with his superb performance and energy. He warmed thing up in that freezing cold weather.
The next Amstel Lager Golden Hour will feature Professor.
No-hate, but it would help Amstel to understand the crowd and the venue before bringing artists to perform. For this particular event, they should have chosen a venue where your typical Hip Hop cats hang out. It's Soweto afterall, there's every type of music lover.
