Tjooooo... Thursday was so cold and I didn't think I would survive going out in the evening, but I did manage to drag myself out to Fourways Tanz Lounge or is it Café.
We were shocked to realize that we were amongst the first people to arrive. That doesn’t normally happen to me. Strange enough, the gig was meant to start at 18:30 for 19:00 and we got there just after 19:00.
The Man on the Moment: L'tido
We waited patiently for all those people who were still rolling with African time. Eventually, their African time converted to wasting our time and the do started without the other invited guests.
His mate and fellow Hip Hoper Morale
Thabiso Khati the event organizer took to the stage and introduced the main man, L’tido. I hope this “we blowing money fast” hype around Hip Hop doesn’t get to L’tido’s head, because this guy seems grounded and pretty humble. He took us through the entire album, giving us the low down on how each song came about.
Yet another mate and Hip Hop artist: Maggz
He also gave us a preview of the video of one of his tracks. Somehow, the cold was getting the best of me, I didn’t even catch the name of the track; but I think it was called “It aint My Fault.” I just remember lip-syncing to “Cos it aint my fault… cos it ain’t my fault…"
This is how the music video begins. Anyone know who Jabu Marumo is?
I hear he was also the creative director of the video. Ladies and gents, the video will blow your mind away. It's too epic. (I know some people will say it’s too American and what what but either way, it’s dope)
Mrs Khati - Bridget Masinga and Zamanyuswa Nyuswa
Some promo girls who were supposed to give us, “the media”, L’tido’s cds, gave my friend and I cold looks instead and proceeded to give out the cds to other media people. Tjooo… like really. We don’t understand their beef, maybe if it was sushi, we’d be clued up. Anyway, we love our SA artists and I’ll go buy the cd. (Pulls Tongue out)
Moving right along… Some media people and performers eventually arrived, but the venue was not even half full. Everyone seemed to be VIP and no one was on the dance floor. It was a Mrapper and YFM affair, but I must admit I enjoyed their company. Crazy people indeed.
I couldn't stay for the performance, because I was starting not to feel my toes and it didn't look like the venue was going to be full. So I bounced.
