TVSA spent this past Sunday afternoon braving the cold wave at the Soweto Theatre where Zakes Bantwini, Zwai Bala and Khaya Mthethwa brought their choirs to stage to showcase their vocal exercises.
Khaya Mthethwa’s Durban choir reigned supreme, proving once more that Khaya is the kingpin of votes-based reality competitions, following his eminent Idols win a few months ago.
Khaya’s team was a clear favourite on social networks and their consistency throughout the competition garnered them enough of a fan base and a guaranteed spot in the Top 2. However, in the finals all three choirs were so good that it could have been anyone’s game. Even Sis’ Ribs couldn’t keep her legs in one position during their performances. Her energy transferred throughout the auditorium.
Winning moment!
Khaya’s choir wins R500 000, which they’ve disclosed to split among the 20 of them and R250 000 to the charity of their choice. Sadly Zakes and Zwai’s choirs leave empty handed! That’s the sad reality of Reality Competitions. As cold as it was, we had innocent fun and partied hard after the show. Trust Mzansi Magic to feed us boundless overflowing alcohol on a Sunday.
Spotted Loyiso Bala and his brother Phelo, who escaped before I could get him on my cam.
Delectable Nandi Mngoama. This girl can do no wrong in my eyes.
COTC’s musical director RJ Benjamin.
Ever stylish Zakes Bantwini.
Mr Bala himself (in a shiny suit)
Judge Anele Mdoda who’s clearly dropped a few kilos.
Kabomo, Thembi Seete (who I was feeling bad for in that cold) and a fan.
Melanie Bala came to support hubby.
Thembi’s fiancé Bobo of Denim fame.
Thiuli Thabethe and Sgonondo of Zone 14 fame.
Mbali Mbebe and Celest Ntuli from Isibaya.
Thanks to Metropolitan for their very formal goodybag and Mzansi Magic for the invite and their treatment. Hoping to interact more in the future.
