Why Johnny Apple won SAGT

“Forget SA’s Got Talent, Johnny Apple’s Got Talent,” those were the words of a female friend of mine after her first experience of the newly crowned winner of the Fourth Season of SA’s Got Talent.

The talent and fun unpacked at the Alex Theatre in Braamfontein last night where six acts came head to head for the whooping R250 000. The teenager from George won the hearts of many and snatched the cheque from the unsuspecting finalists, becoming the second singer to win the show since season two’s winner James Bhemgee.

As read here, If you have been a loyal follower of SAGT, you’d know that Johnny Apple blew everyone away from his first audition, and from there he became a consistent contender to beat, giving all acts a run for their money.

Our 5 Reasons Johnny deserved to win:
1. He has ample SOUL, it’s incredible for a 16 year old white boy .
2. He is mega-talented, one seldom bumps into a talent like his.
3. He never put his foot wrong, vocally in the competition.
4. He has star quality! Young, talented, good looking with rare vocal abilities and can appeal to the international market if well-marketed.
5. It was time for a white person to win for political reasons.

Did you vote? Who would you have liked to win?

I agree with points 1-4, but that 5th point, cant be leveled against such talent! There is a time for everything, trust me! And talent such as that of Johnny's, does not come by everyday. Sure, this country is packed with talented individuals, but one that commands an audience to sit up straight n listen, is something else. Johnny took his place by talent and not by skin colour. And if u read many blogs you will know that there are music listeners that support the person as an artist, for their gift, and what we hope they will use it for. Trust me he wasn't only voted for by whites just because they may have enough money to spend on airtime for votes. He was received with open arms by this rainbow nation. And it is because by listening to him, you can know instantaneously what music is being played in that house! 'This is a mans World?' who dare mess around with a track like that unless you can go to church with it, like the owner did! Johnny did go to church with that! Its talents like that, that can sing to the ENTIRE S.A. nation, and its what we need. Theres a time for everything...Im coloured and my family voted for this young Hope. Its his time.

Don't forget that it is true to say, that this years talent was a tough call! If Johnny didn't 'bring it' we had enough other quality acts to place our money on. This was not the judges call, it is SOUTH AFRICANS voting. We didn't have a political- network of voters debating in our +- 30 minutes, we had to vote. When the acts are F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C-, the money can land anywhere, but when the acts are Exceptional, and one is a thread EPIC, its OBVIOUS! nah, it changes the game!

Didn't really follow the show but I guess reason number 5 is somehow valid, just to balance the rainbow nation. Somehow I believe the voting thing is just there for control. Judges and producers choose the winner
