Matthew McConaughey won the
Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture three weeks ago, he's a bigtime contender for an
Oscar this year and now he's headlining a new TV show.
He's starring in a new series coming up on M-Net called
True Detective. It starts on Friday (7 February) at 21h30.
It's an HBO anthology series and co-stars Woody Harrelson so the show's got stellar credentials and lives up to expectations.
I've seen the first episode and I'm hooked. It's set in 2012 and Matthew and Woody star as detectives who are brought in to re-investigate a serial killer case from 1995. The show then interweaves the past with the present through both of their eyes.
This from the official description: "In learning about each other and the killer, it becomes clear that darkness lives on both sides of the law. "
Matthew plays Detective Rust Cohle who's very troubled - lots of problems etc - and he suits the role perfectly. He's quite scrawny ... I'm thinking he must have filmed the show in close proximity to filming his Oscar-nominated role in Dallas Buyers Club because he had to get
very thin for that.
Woody looks as crazy as he always does but his character's more grounded than Matthew's - he has a family and so on.
Because it's an anthology series the story ends in the first season - there are eight episodes in total. The second season's going to be a completely different story with a different cast.
Here's a trailer to give you an idea:
Flash fact:
The series premiered in the US in mid-January this year.
