Whenever The Walking Dead starts I feel the need to dash around like a mad thing - and often do. No matter how many times I've heard it, the urgency and frenzy of the music messes with my DNA.
It captures the relentless feeding frenzy of the zombies more perfectly than a Perfect Thing and also gives such a strong sense that you're inside the troubled minds of the heroes on the show.
It's no surprise then that the music's composed by the same dude who composed the superbo music for Battlestar Galactica. It was also so evocative and emotional. Other-wordly. Melancholic.
Bear McCreary composed both of them. He also composed the theme music for sci-fi series Defiance (can't wait for Season 2!) and Da Vinci's Demons. Most recently he composed the music for the new pirate series Black Sails - which is filmed in South Africa - Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
He's 34, owns his own record label that specialises in soundtracks and, in a groovy twist of romance, he's married to a musician - singer/songwriter Raya Yarbrough who works with him on his compositions.
