Talk about not having a clue. The first two schmodels were knocked off the catwalk on Africa's Next Top Model on Sunday night (17 November) and both were equally deserving.
Marwa from Tunisia and Steffi from Kenya were the first two to get the boot after they proved that they don't have the chops to pose and strut for video. They revealed that there's a lot more to being a model than meets the eye - you have to have a pulse!
Both were as rigid as rigid things and did what seemed impossible - they were worse than Omowumni who was so bad it was gobsmacking.
The episode delivered the first task of the season and involved messing with the girls' hair, their minds, their very beings. And also their fiancé. Marwa had the biggest meltdown out of everyone - her fiancé didn't want her to cut her hair and now she has go home to him with a dream in shatters and very possibly her marriage - all for an iffy bob.
It was a perfect first challenge because of the impact it had on everyone but some of the results were terrible. That wig they've given Roselyn is ridiculous and unsustainable. I didn't like that they resorted to a wig - it defeats the point of it all.
Also very troubling was Rhulani's bob. It looks like a blob on top of her head. I've always been under the impression that I like bobs but I've realised I don't. From certain angles it looks okay-ish on her but I definitely preferred her hair the way it was before. Same thing with Michelle and her red hair. I would have preferred streaks through her blonde hair or something.
The makeover worked best for Aamito which was proven by the fact that she won the challenge. She's very schmodel'esque in every aspect and already seems to be a front runner for the win.
Unlike whackjob 'Wumni who only managed to cling on because she's good reality TV fodder. She gives that perfect "I can't believe she did that!?" factor that every reality show needs. To be fair, she was actually better than the two who got ditched because at least she didn't freeze - quite the opposite.
The best of the task were definitely: Aamito, Michelle - and that growl thing she did - and Safira. All three were impressive in the video but all three need to work on walking in stilettos - something that's clearly a big problem for everyone.
That loud, clumsy stage they walked on during the elimination didn't help them at all. All you could hear was "Clonk, clonk, goof" as they heard their fate. It was very unnerving - I kept feeling I needed to be ready to catch them and also got distracted by the sound instead of listening to the judges.
Next week the remaining 10 go to Jozi to do a fashion show for designer Thula Sindi. After the shoe fiasco this week it's going to be interesting to see how well - or
not - they walk the ramp.
