Talk about
pressure ...
An actress you
don't want to be is Meryl Streep's daughter. How could you ever be good enough? You could never do any accent
because you'd always sound fake in contrast to her. You'd have to be extremely confident (or delusional) to do it.
Particularly when people discover who you are like I just have. Jim's rebound fling Hallie on
The Newsroom ...
... turns out she's Meryl Streep's middle daughter Grace Gummer. Once you know it isn't surprising it is? - she's the splitting image of Mazz.
She's 27 and Mazz's middle daughter. She also isn't Meryl's first daughter to follow in her footsteps - her oldest daughter Mamie plays Nancy on The Good Wife - which I didn't realise until I found out about Grace. Suddenly they're all actresses!
I've also never thought about Meryl's husband properly because you never see them in the 'bloids or on E!. I've been investigating to find out more about their relationship and
discovered that his name's Don Gummer and that they met through Meryl's brother decades ago. Don was best friends with her brother and Meryl married him in 1978 - he's a professional sculptor.
They have four children, Grace, Mamie, a youngest daughter Louisa and a musician son Henry.
Grace, Mamie, Louisa.
Interestingly Grace didn't study to be an actress - she studied art history and Italian. She made her acting debut in 2008 in a play called The Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents and made her first TV appearance three years ago.
She's played small roles in couple of movies including the Julia Roberts flik Larry Crowne and also had guest roles on the TV shows Smash and Zero Hour before landing her role on The Newsroom. I didn't see Smash so have no clue what she was like on it.
Her role on The Newsroom's a much bigger deal than Smash because of the names it's put her touch with. HBO, Aaron Sorkin, a newsworthy show that hasn't been cancelled. It's gonna be interesting to see if it's her big break.
