So Miss China won Miss World in China earlier this year and now Miss USA's won
Miss Universe in the USA. Bah!
In the early hours of Thursday morning 20-year-old Miss USA Olivia Culpo won the crown at the pageant in Las Vegas and took over from Miss Universe 2011
Leila Lopes. Miss Philippines, Janine Tugonon, came in second and third spot went to Miss Venezuela, Irene Sofia Esser Quintero.
On one hand the host country/winner set-up could seem
too much of a coincidence to be rigged yet on another they might be relying on us thinking that so that the coincidence itself becomes the diversion.
Whatever dirty secrets and sordid lies are buried under the sparkle of both pageants, there's no changing the fact that our Melinda Bam didn't win despite being such a favourite for the title.
Still, she strutted her stuff with pizzazz and she got noticed - she landed a spot in the Top 10. When she should have been in the Top 5 at least - even if it was just for how much she's gotten people talking about the pageant! She was top of the leader boards throughout the build-up and
covered in crystals - you'd think it would count for something but nope.
Melinda's evening gown which she wore for the Top 10.
My worst thing about these pageants is everyone's expected to accept it all with grace and poise and a smile. I don't want to. I want to smack someone. All that effort, all that time and nothing to show for it. Imagine how cool it would be if a finalist went berserk as the winner got announced, storming off stage screaming: "
Such a waste of my time. I could have been home watching TV! "
While I continue imagining the scene, here's a video with moments from the pageant and the build-up, including the finalists in bikini Santa suits.
