Comedy Central has acquired exclusive TV rights to South African satirical animation series Izikhokho Show. The first animated short premiered on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) on Monday (18 June 2012), with new episodes premiering weekly every Monday evening.

Previously only known to YouTube aficionados, viral hit Izikhokho Show is South Africa’s answer to Comedy Central’s legendary South Park, and is set in a surreal and nightmarish universe where South Africa is under siege from the Swazis and Sothos and the only people standing in their way are ‘Zulu Boy’ and his friend ‘Rudolph’ - who just happens to be an alien.

One hundred percent written, produced and voiced in South Africa, Izikhokho Show is the brainchild of Mdu Comics’ founder and cartoonist, Mdu Ntuli. The Izikhokho animation channel on YouTube has notched up more than 1.47 million downloads to date while Mdu's last online instalment, entitled "Jesus of the ANC", received over 45,000 downloads in the last week.

Among the bizarre and hilarious characters making an appearance in the hand-drawn cartoon series are: ‘Jesus of the ANC’ (who visits Zulu Boy in his sleep and tells him that the lord wants him to transfer money on the computer); an unidentifiable creature named ‘Bob’ who deals with the Mafia and gets intimate with Noeleen from 3Talk; not to mention ‘Bonang the Camel Toe’ and ‘Madala’ from the Manhood School.

Commented Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central, Africa, “We are delighted to be including South African satirical animation on Comedy Central for the first time and to introduce Izikhokho Show’s unique comic worldview to our viewers.

"Izikhoko Show is a great addition to our comedy animation slate and a brilliant example of what Comedy Central stand for – offering the viewer a look at the world through comedy glasses and putting all issues - large or small - in perspective.”

New episodes of Izikhokho Show will premiere every Monday after South Park at 20:55 CAT on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122).
