THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART & THE COLBERT REPORT GO ALMOST-LIVE IN AFRICA

Fans of irreverent satirical Comedy Central programmes The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report will be thrilled to learn that African viewers will be able to see the shows much closer to their live telecast.

Starting Wednesday 6 June, both Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning shows will air in Africa less than 24-hours after their US premiere, making their content ever more topical for audiences on the continent.

Fake news anchor Jon Stewart has been spoofing US news programmes in The Daily Show since 1999, with help from “the Best F#@king News Team Ever” - an intrepid team of pretend news correspondents and commentators. The team includes Samantha Bee, Wyatt Cenac, Jason Jones, Al Madrigal, Aasif Mandvi, John Oliver and Jessica Williams.

In an ironic twist you couldn’t have predicted, TV's most irreverently relevant political and pop culture commentary has seen Jon Stewart and his colleagues conquering the very world of media mavens and political blowhards it set out to parody.

Whether they're skewering the day's breaking news, investigating the people, places and events that make America what it is, or ranting and raving about politics in their award-winning Indecision election year coverage, "The Daily Show" has proudly earned its title as ”The Most Trusted Name In Fake News”.

The biggest newsmakers - from political heavyweights to real news journalists to Hollywood hotshots - make the seat across from Jon their first stop, giving the most hilariously informative interviews anywhere - whether they mean to or not.

Recent guests on The Daily Show have included the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, US news anchor Dan Rather and The Dictator himself (a.k.a. comedian and actor Sacha Baron Cohen).

Loudmouth pundit (and former The Daily Show correspondent) Stephen Colbert lampoons and satirizes conservative US media pundit, blowing a whole lot of hot air as he chairs fearless, no-holds-barred discussions in which the important topics of our time and the daily news are treated with absolutely no seriousness whatsoever.

Host and comic genius Colbert preaches what he calls truthiness - his version of the truth – and according to him: it’s the only version that matters.

Colbert likes nothing better than showing his guests how wrong they are and picking one-sided fights with politicians and personalities - highlighting the absurdities of US life and sniffing out hypocrisy wherever it may hide.

Guests who have had the honour of finding out why they're just plain wrong include Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Anderson Cooper, Christiane Amanpour, Arianna Huffington, Frank Rich, Chris Matthews, Connie Chung, Al Franken, Carl Bernstein, Madeleine Albright, Ralph Nader, Jesse Jackson, Gary Hart, Robert Kennedy, Jr., George Lucas, Ted Danson, Martin Short, Neil Young, Morgan Spurlock and Amy Sedaris.

In US election year, The Colbert Report and The Daily Show will be continuing their legacy of award-winning coverage of the 2012 US Presidential elections.

Highlights will include The Daily Show’s coverage of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida (August 2012) and the Democratic National Convention in September 2012.

The Daily Show first earned its political spurs during the now-infamous 2000 election, receiving an Emmy® Award and a prestigious Peabody® Award for its year-long "Indecision 2000" coverage of the race for the White House, achievements repeated during the series' "Indecision 2004" election reporting.

This marks the ninth time the series has taken its critically-acclaimed and award-winning political coverage on the road, having previously travelled to Philadelphia (2000 RNC), Los Angeles (2000 DNC), Boston (2004 DNC), Denver (2008 DNC) and St. Paul (2008 RNC) to cover the national party conventions, and to Washington, D.C. (2002, 2010) and Columbus, OH (2006) for special, mid-term election coverage.

Commented Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Comedy, Africa, “The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are cutting edge comedy programmes that keep viewers glued to their seats by satirizing and dissecting current affairs - and the people making the news – with insight, wisdom and biting humour.

"We’re thrilled that audiences in Africa will be able to access episodes of the The Daily Show and The Colbert Report within just a few hours of their US premiere, ensuring that the genius of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert is delivered alive and kicking to their TV sets.”

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart airs exclusively in Africa on Comedy Central, Tuesday to Thursday at 19:40 CAT.

The Colbert Report airs exclusively in Africa on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122), Tuesday to Thursday at 20:05 CAT.
