Talk to SABC aboutthat not Generations. Check channels, strict rules on SABC 1 for language not for SABC 3. So once they have a different race they drop on vernac Isidingo has no strict rules. Just information for you people before you call writers dumb, they are not, this comes from government - the language thing. Even other countries do it, ceck Germany, you go there, theres only Dutch spoken nothing else, if you want other channels you buy cable there. Siwtzerland as well, they don't play in other countries. Actually if SABC 1 and 2 don't meet their language requirement, they pay a million Rand a day as a fine to the language board, I forget their name, they are ccalled something. So, just so you know, SABC is trying to make SABC 3 a commercial channel, certain rules don't apply to them because of that. So, before you think it's because theiir writers are brilliant, no, they have lenient rules than other sopas. If you don't believ me, do research, you are welcome you will find even more stuff, then you will understand and give Generations a break with your uninformed criticism. There's also the sex thing, check how long the sex scenes take on Isidingo, compared to Genrations, they are not strict on them than Generations which is called a family show. So, writers don't just do as they please guys, if it were for them, there's a lot they culd do but hands are tied. And before you ask who am I, I work for an independent broadcasting rules board, I know these things, I'm not talking from the dark

...And people Documenting stories about the struggle which dont get me wrong was a part of our history but has been done numerous times before...Well with the story of stealing babies,rhythm city is highlighting the fact that kidnapping does exist and da reality that thousands of children are missing every year...Also that no crime goes unpunished and if u do crime u will get sent to prison...also the affair story,does that not affect us?...Is there anything else you would like me to highlite and if you looking for a debate then i will give you one.

I'd rather watch forward thinking stories than putting black people as kidnappers, why don't they do it with their white characters. Why would a corporate woman be obsessed with kidnapping a baby or a man like that one as Lucilla's husband. I guess if you want to watch things that degrade us as blacck people watch RC. If that's what you feel you are as a black person, that's if you are black. The documentary story will always be relevant becauuse young people have to know these things, if the JEWS are still talking about the holoccaust which happened morethan fifty years ago, they do movies, documentaries they put it wherever they can. Why should we forget our past that was just yesterday, the 90s but we never complain when the Jews bring up the holocaust. It is sad that we as black people we get so irritated about our own things but when the white people do their things we think WOW! Ja, it proves apartheid did it's work properly, it has made bblack people think very little of their own things and themselves. And you produly say you have freedom, there is none when your mind is still in chains.
Besides the story of the documentary is not only about that, it's affecting the characters from Dlomo to Khethiwe, who is clearly have an ulterior motive, and I suspect it has to do with Khaphela. I wait in anticipation to find out what it is exactly, to me that is good story telling than crazy black women stealing babies. And for your information that has been done to death, even Generations did it ten years ago, but Dallas, Dynasty and all old American soaps have done it. Your RC is not very original. There's an informed debatte if you asking for one.

Ok well what about the fact of how predictable nd boring generations has become that even their top actors have left to soapie to seek "Greener pastures"...Vusi kunene,linda sokhulo,connie furgesun....ok nd Kenneth(i forgot his name)...dont get me wrong,it was such a gud soapie a few years back nd dat was with gud script writers nd actors.Currently it makes me sleep and yes apartheid was a big part of our history but it is so over done already,so many movies,documentaries and soapies have covered that already...generations is just not being original,because Isidingo has just covered the struggle story recently with Frank and it looks like generations just covered dat story.With regards to them using black characters to portray that story,I personally think that actress plays the story brilliantly,she keeps viewers wanting more...Isidingo uses a "White lady",(cherel) to do the most absurd things...Generations has reached that stage were it needs to be removed off our screens.

Firstly you are clueless of why actors leave soapies, what they write in your mags is not what is always true, some get tired, aome think there are greener pastures only to find nothing, most of them come back asking for their jobs but mfundi says thanks but no thanks. I can give you examples - why is vusi on Isidingo? He said he is tired of soaps but BANG back into a soap, he did ask to come back on Gen but they said no. Linda was fired, not resigned, connie went for the wild because it offered more cash, not Gen problem, they have more budget there, SABC can't beat that budget of that soap. But she is also bored there she wants to come back, as much as she gets an awesome salary. Secondly, Generations writes four to five months in advance, Isidingo only a month and a half, ask anyone who knows they will tell you, go ask someone at the SABC if you don't beliieve. Then who stolle the story. Lastly because you have no clue, ccheck the ratings, when Connie left people said they will stop watching, it was still watched by five million people at that time but now it's more that seven million. Why? And don't tell me it's out of habit, if tat was the case it will only be watched by the people with the habit from way back when 15-17 yrs ago when it started but why is it growing. Isidingo even changed slots to try grow but instead they are going down. They can't even beat Scandal, so much for good writing, no one is watching. So, why would you take away something with 7 million vviewers for something with non-existent ones. TV is about ARs my dear that is a fact

I travelled to the Eastern Cape this holiday, in some bundu and there it was, Isidingo billboard with the whole Sibeko family and I wonder but why people don't watch, truth is Generations, no matter what you say, it has something that resonate with people and stuff that they relate to, and that's what makes good storytelling, you tell it for your audience, not to pat yourself at the back and say I'm a good writer, if what you are writing is not touching millions, you must know something is amiss

Ok if you say so.... What Generations needs right now is drama! I watch Isidingo and rhythym cityttoo and I must say that the drama right now is ten times better than that of Generations.Both Rhythym city and isidingo is making me want to watch the next episode and find out what is going on, as for Generations, I can miss a week of episodes and still not have missed much...With regards to Generations being the top soapie,i agree but that is purely based on AR's.Generations airs during primetime and not everyone can afford to have dstv,so they stuck with watching crap like generations...Lets face it,there is nothing else to watch after 8 anyway...Also most people cant get a signal for etv,which is why Rhythym city does not have such a large viewership that "Borarations"...Generations needs to be removed off our tv screens.Take a look at what happened with backstage,it got taken away and the end result was that we got Rhythym city which i would rate 10/10...With rhythm city we get to see real stories.The lives of the rich and famous.The day to day lives of poor and middle class.With generations people just start owning a block of flats,their own magazines,becoming editors without a single qualification...Just because your friend is a c.e.o of an ad agency then you become a manager which doesn't work like that in the real world.If you ask me to list 10 actors who need to be taken off i would give you 20,Starting with Khetiwe.Seriously queen must go already,i dont see why she's still there,cant jabulani take her to the farm or something...Also so i dont see how anyone can compare Rhythym city,which is i would say,4 years old to Generations which has been on our screens for donkeys years and just fails to gives viewers current,factual and nail biting stories.Come on Generations, up your game, you are better than this drivel you are giving us...

The thing with Generations is that it made a name long back when it was still gud. Now it has lost its plot. Pple who ar still watching it are jus dwelling on the fact that it was the biggest soapie, not becoz its gud. Truth be said, they brought the new actors, I.e Mawande & company to do damage control but still nothing has changed. In my opion Generations is now called a HAS BEEN!

I agree with Nqadu, genration is now so boring I don't worry if I missed a week's episodes, in most cases I predict what is going to happen next ,and bang.... exactly my predictions. And for the writer & producers, it is too abviousthat when one actor is leaving the screen, he or she must go somewhere like eMahlabathini, overseas and other places, this is too obviousand boring, why can't one just disappear ( like kidnapped or die). Now we 've aways known that Sharon and hubby will leave the screen when we first head that Sam is going to Mahlabathini, Ntombi is going overseas, why did you guys not make her die from sthe stress she has from the kiss of her hubby and Ms. Millionnaire???? Please think out of the box, I prsonally love watching gerenations, I always have, but this days, it is not worth watching, I rather watch something else until 21H00 when Muvhango plays, at least they still have something to give, but they will also loose the touc when allowing the chief to have ll the ladies he comes across with,

I still say if you watch it ut of habit who is forcing you. I gave you numbers real numbers, argue with me on that. No producer or director or writer of Generations sits in your home and hold you at gun[oint to watch it, so why are you watching. And as for your lame argument of Dstv, iit has been measured even on Dstv, Generations is still the most watched show. So, those people who can afford Dstv, why are they not watching The Mentalist, Desperate Housewife or even the American reality shows that are domibating there and not watch Generations. Who is holding them at gunpoint, I still ask. All of you can't answer that because truth is they enjpy it, period, that is the plain truth, you can say habit blah blah blah the other channels are not right in other places, that is bull, that was in 2006, not anymore, TV research has shown that even people in poor areas, even in shacks there is more dishes there. So, why are those people watching Generations if they have so much options. Why is Isidingo and RC not growing in leaps and bounds as Generations is, if they are so bored. Truth is, even iff you go to a club, you don't like thwe music, you leavve, no one will block you. So, why people, why watch something you claim yu hate watching. Deep down, you like it, that is the truth. Jules as much as you say people there get rich and become editors soon, I can tell you now, people on RC don't grow, they are always poor. Mamokete's spaza, she can't even have a proper signage, women in townships like themselves, people in townships will have a nice bedroom suite even if they don't earn much, that Khuse family doesn't grow. I don't want to watch that, it's TV it's entertainment not a documentary of how long people can stay poor. We come home tired, exhausted from work, we want entertainment, it's called heightened reality, if I want reality I will watch the news, I watch to watch a soap fr entertainment, it's not edutainment people or new bulletin of how poor SA people are, it's entertainment. That's why you all still watch Generations.

The reason why grtns has a lot of viewership is that majority of pple can't afford dstv so they hav no option. If u had common sense u wld know that quantity does not mean quality. Nqadu...Why cant you get it into your thick skull.....?,The point that myself and Audi A8 are trying to make is that yes,we are not disputing the fact that generations is still the most watched soapie in the country but what i am saying is that Rhythym city is a fairly new soapie,you cant compare it to generations as generations has been airing on tv since the early 90's yet it still fails to give us factual stories and stories that keep us at da edge of our seats...by the way the point that was raised bowt people on generations instantly becoming editors was raised by me and not Audi.I said that in Rhythym city we get to have a taste of The rich and famous and the poor...Just look at thsidi,she is studing to be a dr.In generations a gardener and maid just owned a block of flats,Sibusiso was a gangster who is now a c.e.o.Who are they fooling.In reality without a decent qualification you wont be able to sit in a managers chair thats for sure...Give me 1 story in generations which you feel will grip viewers besides that story with Mawande which believe me is worthless.You say african women are being portrayed in a foolish manner in Rhythym city but what about gen?Mawande's daughter did a sex tape and they call it a family show?She also portrays a character who is a "Spoilt brat" which has been done so many times I've lost count,Remember Angela motene,Kenneths daughter,Thomas?They were also rich spoiled brats.Also mawande keeps calling her husband saying the same line "Im tired of making these big decisions on my own",if you ask me its getting a bit weird.Gen has become so predictable that viewers know whats going to happen.I can bet that Mawandes husband comes back and finds her with Dlomo.Also that other new chick who thinks she's coloured with her broken afrikaans,she is a memela buj she doesn't know that she is related to mawande,cant she connect the dots,does she not read the newspapers?Lasty Nqadu please go and learn how to write properly as you diction is pathetic.It leaves me with sore eyes trying to figure out what you writing.

@nqandu I don't know where u get yo statistics from coz my bro is a senior at multichoice & when I showed him yo comment & he was laughing saying u must be drunk from baboon urine. Rhythm city is better by far. Take fo instance the storyline of akona, khetiwe, khubone, khapela, useless rubbish. U know why they even fired Sam & Sharon? Mfundi said in his own words the characters were now hearded nowhere. They even fired the head writer & put Bongi in his place but still the characters are headed for doom. If u want real entertainment try Rhythm city coz it has pple with real talent & an exciting storline. Tell me what's Lungile, Dineo, Queen, Prince, senzo, Jason, Ruby, Patricia doing in gen? Take for instance Naomi, Miles, Lucila, David storyline. Now that's what we call character extraodinaire & entertainment at its best!

With Isidingo there is that story with Bianca being a surrogate for the sibeko duo...Sifiso's recovery and new found obsession with Lolly...Benjamins depression making him over the edge...Barker haines locked up in Cambodia. In Rhythym city we have Naomi who plays such an exciting role,She's just that kind of person everybody likes to hate...Here actions,the way she talks.Then in upcoming episodes Lucilla and David plot together,She helps him take down Suarez baloyi in exchange 4 help to get rid of Naomi...He kills elizabeth and frames naomi nd she goes to jail,Then Mamokete will be having her kitchen renovated,she runs out of money,it ends in drama,Nikk's brother returns and shakes things up...Finally in generations,I predict that Patricia sells more quotes in that jar,Akhona gets a new hairstyle,lungile and dineo hook up,Khetiwe gives birth and she and Khapela go for good to live with her gogo in natal.,.

Oh and i pedict a few more suprises which i feel will make us more than happy.Queen starts sharing her slimming pills with Ruby...They both get rushed to hospital by jabulani who is in a drunken state,while on their way to hospital jabu crashes into a petrol tanker,all 3 of them die instantly,a devistated princie goes back to boarding school where he belongs...Senzo witnesses Noluntu and jason in bed at sibusiso's penthouse,senzo walks to the balcony in tears,jason follows him to explain,they enter into an argument,the fence at the balcony gets loose and they both lose their grip and fall.Patricia's husband arrives at siqalo to tell her he won the jackpot,she decides that they both will be eloping to namibia....Yoh that would be a lot of drama but would help get rid of majority of the boring cast on Generations,Im so good at writing maybe gen should hire me instead of their writer who clearly is'nt doing their job.

I am not a Gen writer, I am in broadcasting consultation, we do research about TV shows and all the research we do all over SA with people about shows, people love Generations, you guys are just a bitter few. And Akhona being a Memela, why would she connect the dots, Just because a person is a Zuma doesn't mean automatically your uncle is the president. Why would she think Mawande is her aunt when she doesn't know that Mawande is connected to Sibusiso. You talk like a white man who thinks all black people are related. You are like Americans when you are from SA they think you'd know someone in Cape Town when you are from Durban. And your stories are boring, the ideas you have here are boring. People who are livid of watching should stop watching it, why don't they don't. If it's so boring why are they watching, you guys are running away from that fact.

You keep saying they don't have a choice, they have a remote, they have a choice, they could even watch wrestling (which by the way has more ARs than your Isidingo, God they are even beaten by wrestling). Nqadu..,You are seriously cracking me up hahaha.Isidingo did not move time slots due to Ar's.If you work for a broadcaster then you would know that it was around August that the cricket was on and disrupted sabc3's scheduling,isidingo had to keep moving to accomodate the cricket.Thats when they realised that they had a much bigger viewership at 7:30 thats why the producers decided to move it to the 7:30 time slot.GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT COZ YOU MAKING A FOOL OF YOURSELF...STOP FORCING PEOPLE TO WATCH BECAUSE YOU DEPRESSED.THIS IS MY OPINION RESPECT IT.

The debate is interesting. I do have to say this though isidingo has good storylines but they are too outlandish, everytime i watch i roll my eyes. As for RC worse, no self respecting man will do what Miles is doing, Fats, the Khuse's there is absolutely no growth with their characters. They act well but their characters are so stagnant. The same struggling Fats has not changed since way back. Generations though predictable and boring allows characters to grow, change to something different. I hate seeing people who remain the same coz its just plain boring. Let Tshidi grow up instead of being a trouble maker

Still, its arguably one of the best soapies to emerge in SA. All soapies have their flaws and all. I do agree that Rhythm City is going hard, but that doesn't make Generations any weaker. Bongi Ndaba is one of the head writers and damn, she's good. Its ok to dislike it, we all have different tastes. But don't go in at anyone who thinks otherwise. By the way, does anyone know when Montana is coming back? Heard it was advertised.

at nqandu it's pity I joined this debate a little too late.The only reason Generations would have viewership is because not everyone especially in the rural areas is really familiar with the English language-now why would I AS a viewer watch something I don't understand where Generations offers the languages that I either speak or familiarize myself with.Geez,the show has lost its touch and even though the ARs are soaring the viewers are not happy with the content that is presented to them.Bricks in a coffin please-speaking of that the writers not only made a mockery of Paul Mashaba's death last year they fell again into the trend of writing in a supposed off-screen car accident which included Jason lying on a gurney,being rushed to the hospital operating room with medics screaming medical jargon at each other and as usual these scenes are always pushed to the end.And It's odd how Sbusiso's past keeps on changing to accommodate every character that he becomes enemies with,first his baby formula company was the cause that Anne DeVilliers's then infant became crippled,then came the history of Senzo's parentage and Now he was supposedly in love with Mawande,in that case they too should have shared a child!Then there are the issues of Sharon "sacrificing "everything because of some sangoma's prophecy which is absolutely fictional crap.Ntombi should've at least been given a descend exit and as for Akhona's relation with the Malemas would it go anywhere.Oh,Noluntu is doing the exact same thing Nicholas did when he first came on Generations-flirt with Jason&make us think that she would somehow come between him and Senzo by snatching Jason from him.What is Lungile'S ROLE there really? and I recently watched an episode of The Wild which ironically was written by Gen's Headwriter Christian Blomkamp and I wondered to myself why can't he shape up Generations in terms of dramatic content like the episode he had wrote-it was freakin awesome and interesting it really caught my attention.
A soap opera is supposed to be fictional at some point-fictional to a point that there is kidnapping plots,murder,unbelievable affairs& twists and freakin the edge of the seat plots that viewers want to see.The dialogue is good that I admit but the action lacks.My goodness I'm still appalled at the way Ntombi left the show-leave a letter.Who freakin writes a letter these days.Secondly,Dumisani was just written out and an empty house was supposedly shown to convince us that he skipped the country.Now lets recap on what has been happening with Isidingo- starting with the Le Roux's,Cherel returned to her usual self,plotted and succeeded in breaking up Braam en Marlien,then the Le Roux farm burned down and so the Sibeko's were introduced and we had Sifiso's mania to deal with,Katlego's scheming and recently another affair is going to take place between her and Calvin.
Now that's drama we viewers want to see-yes they over exaggerate and overdo the hostage dramas but that is what we still want to see.Remember in overall Sabc1is the most watched channel compared to its sister channels and that's maybe the only reason why Generations would always be tops.Look at Days of our lives,When Sabc 1 saw it had lost the viewership it once had,they dropped it and Sabc 3 felt the need to pick it up because they believed it would be better suited for a certain number of viewers.
Generations is about to turn 20 making it our oldest soapie yet after of course m-net's defunct soapie Egoli but are we still going to reminisce about the times Ntsiki,Archie,Tau,Jack,Zoleka,Sonny,Julia&Zanele were still there.In actual fact if you want to admit it the soap has lost the touch it once had BIG TIME! Poor Dini ever since the Malemas and Akhona came on board,She has been making cameo appearances and had no story and It's time that Queen was given her own storylines.Goodness Prince's father,Terrence can be brought back to cause chaos for her.Even in reality no one lives a comic life for the rest of their lives.So to diss soaps like Rhythm City & Isidingo who try their best to entertain us even sometimes being to fictional is plain low even for yourself.Zone 14 should take the time slot because they have something to give us that is worth watching.You claim that Gen is the best,Have they been given an award for best writing? because the only suitable contenders are Isidingo,Rhythm City,Scandal-The Wild is also making its mark.
Even you watch RC how else would you know what is happening there so again please do not brag about AR'S-If the content is flat its flat ke qha!

In conclusion,The writers are still the same writers that were there 10 years previously-Tanya Tiedje, Christian Blomkamp, Bongi Ndaba(she emigrated to Muvhango once &wrote interesting scripts there) and Kirsten Adams BECAUSE they refuse to add fresh young storyliners onto their team who would only focus on providing story lines while they concentrate on writing the scripts but NOOO no wonder we see the crap that we see on our screens.I Generations iya BHOOOOOOORA! Finish and KLAAR.Yes no one is forcing the viewers to watch the soap but do the poor people who only understand nguni languages have a choice?
Maybe the Channels should just for a week remove Generations from 8 and move it to 6.30 or move RC AND ISIDINGO,SCANDAL,EVEN Muvhango to 8. Then it will be measured where Your Precious Gen stands.

Someone help me here; Noluntu Memela. How now. Isn't memela supposed to be her mother's surname? Mawande may keep her maiden surname, but if she's married, the children assume their father's. Something does'nt add up.

generations used to be soo hot ..these days it blows hot and cold all the time...i havent given up hope that one it will bring back its spark,thats why im always glued....

its not all bad though..i like the way mawande memela acts she's very professional,she knows how to split business issues from personal issues..i like the way she handled senzo, ntombi, swazi etc..she's excellent that lady..and also how she handles her children its super..even when she's angry she doesnt shout or scream or go around breaking plates,she talks in a very calm and collected manner at the same time putting her point across..I LOVE MAWANDE.. she's my rolemodel..i hope to be like her one day,she inspires me to be a good usinesswoman and mother one day....I just dont like the way she talked to akhona she didnt give a chance to explain

The people who say it's predictable areliars. I have read so many things that people have predicted will happen in these logs and none of it has. You are not predicting when you watch and see that Jason knows about AAkhona being a Mmemela and then you say that's what's going to happen, of course that's what's going to happen because the writer gave it to you through Jason, only Akhona didn't know. You cannot lie, none of you have predicted anything on Generations an it happened exactly like that, so it's not predictable. Right now people are speculating about the surname, why Mawande is a Memela. Next thing when the story is finally revealed you will come here and say you predicted it. Rubbish, you predict nothing, you watch and speculate, that's all. So, don't lie and say it's predictable. @ontrance, watch your toung sisi and you dont have to be angry or take it personal when people are saying what they think about this soapie. critisizing generation does not mean that we hate it, it means that we want the writers to improve their writting skills and give us the best.

do not forget that this blog is open for everybody, allow blogers to speak their minds, you might not like it when people critisize generation but belive me, the writers likes it a lot be cause they learn from their mistakes.

It's amazing how people always jump on a band wagon to pick up mistakes on Generations, I read comments on Isidingo page, same thing, people don't pick up any mistakes, either cultural or otherwise. But come to Generations every little thing becomes national crisis. Right now on Isidingo, Sifiso dies, they are going to bury him, as a black family, nothing has been done culturally, as a black family would do. No one is sittingon a mattress, no candles, nothing. They are going on like no one has died, only family member they talk about is Sifiso's mother, who will also stay in a hotel. Which is strange in black families. Personally, I have no problems with that because I didn't grow up in a very cultural family and it has nothing to do with religion, we just don't really care and yes, we are black. I understand that Sibeko's could be like my family. My point is when the same happens on Generations, people in these blogs, facebook or twitter even newspapers, it becomes such a huge thing, complaints about how white the writers of Generations are, etc. Why are Isidingo writers exempted? And as rich as the Sibeko's are, they are still black. Why is that? Why do people always harp on this show to criticise it? I once wrote that people are very selective when it comes to criticising Generations, they pull it down no matter what. People went crazy thinking I'm talking nonsense, here now it's happening. Why are people quite about what happens on Isidingo because if you took the same scenario and put it on Generations, they would have gone on and on about how those writers don't do research and so on and so forth. Think about it people. Is all the criticism you put on Generations justified all the time? Don't get emotional about this post now, just think about it with an open mind.

at ontrance.The only reason we criticise Generations is because it's mistakes have become too obvious.At least on Isidingo the mother came to her son's funeral.Now in Generations when a character dies or gets married the related family that was once introduced to us viewers never returns for that occassion a classic example is with Paul's funeral-Grace and Rachel never came for Paul's wake and the Mashaba brothers had spoke of a mother but she never even bothered coming to her son's funeral that is not how real families operate especially if it's a funeral and as for Lumka too she never came to Busi's funeral but she claimed that it was her favourite aunt.Oh,Mawande's husband Caleb is also an international journalist-Paul was also the hot shot international journalist when he was introduced.We are not criticising the soapie because we hate it but as the oldest it should set an example for other soapies with the writers coming up with exciting storylines that keep us viewers interested and coming back for more.Yes Rhythm City and Isidingo have their flaws but they try to keep us in suspense of what will be happenning next.

@nqandu- the struggle is part of our heritage but that doesn't mean that we can't move on for we have documentaries,libraries and Julius's "dubuli ibhulu" to remind us so we don't need such stories anymore because as a nation we have moved on and quite frankly such storylines have been overly done.

@vandi thanks for asking darling. Its due to weather reason there was a big wind guys. Ppl's house hav been damage and car's have been crashed by tree's. Im ok, no damages in ma flat. Thank God!
