Transgender schmodel catwalks Top Model 11

Cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model premieres on Vuzu on Thursday night (3 November) at 20h30 and features a first for the series: a transgender schmodel.

Turns out one of the 14 contestants is 22-year-old program assistant Isis King - a trans woman who changed her name from Darrell Walls ...you may have seen her story on Tyra?

Isis vs Darrell: shown on a news special on WJZ news in the US.

Isis was cast on the show after meeting Top Model's art director Jay Manuel during Season 10. She was part of a photoshoot for the season - the photoshoot that raised awareness about homeless youth - and asked him if the show would be keen on a contestant who felt they were trapped in the wrong body.

When casting came up for Season 11, Tyra asked that the show find her to ask her to audition. At the time she was still going through a gender transition so she hasn't had gender reassignment surgery when we see her in the series.

The season shows her taking hormone replacement injections and dealing with things surrounding her desire to transform. After the series Tyra introduced her to a surgeon who did the operation for her free of charge and once it was done she appeared on The Tyra Show to talk about it.

who am i to judge........ a person should do whatever they want with their body as long as they are comfortable to do that.......its the same as getting a tatoo u choose that you like it and u want it in your body.......its the same thing with him he chose to transfer himself from male to female who are am i to judge/critisize , he did what he felt comfortable with him , he likes it , and its his body ...................................its between him and god

Who am I to judge? My sentiments exactly zandilez. Not with all the 'grey area that is a reality even physically, where gender is concerned. Isis is gorgeous!! , she was a cute boy too. So nunus. Has one of the best catwalks in the history of ANTM. A big wow! @ how late SA buys/broadcasts this shows. But anyway.

I watched this season of AMTM last year when it came out. As I'm addicted to anything gorgeous Tyra touches. This season can't be missed trust me!!! And I remember I couldnt believe she was transgender too. If they never told us how many would have guessed...huh. She is beautiful
