Kuli Roberts

Following the outrage caused by Kuli Roberts' column in a Sunday newspaper this past week, questions have been raised about the future of her television show, Headline, on M-Net's Mzansi Magic channel.

Headline will continue on Mzansi Magic in its primetime slot on Thursdays at 20h30 and Mzansi Magic will not terminate Kuli's contract as presenter of the show.

Lebone Maema, Mzansi Magic's Channel Manager, explains:

"Mzansi Magic does not endorse the views expressed by Kuli Roberts in her newspaper column. However, after discussions with Kuli, the management of Mzansi Magic have decided to give her the benefit of the doubt, accepting her explanation that it was not her intention to be offensive or malicious.

"Thus, Mzansi Magic will grant Kuli the opportunity to make a public apology on Headline this week.

"We embrace diversity and this week's episode of Headline will scrutinise Kuli's column from different sides," says Maema. "We have solicited opinions from high-profile South Africans and trendsetters, as well as members of the public."

Headline will conduct interviews with, amongst others, City Press Editor Ferial Haffajee; politician Patricia de Lille; communications expert Farah Fortune; radio jock Ishmael Abrahams, actor Craig Palm; and DJ Warras.

Not to mention the fact that Mzansi Magic wouldn't just chuck away a crowd puller like Headline.Yes,Kuli overstepped the mark with her column but to play the Devil's advocate, her show is entertaining and that's rare with local productions.

What's Headline Mathaz? I've never heard anybody around my circles talking about it.

Whether she apologizes or not doesn't matter now, she must get the same treatment as David.

As much as it is entertaining and I am all for presenters pushing the boundries from time to time, but I believe that as a seasoned journalised, she should have known better especially in light with other coloured issues in the spotlight from the presidents spokesperson, claiming there are too many coloured person in the Wester Cape, The legislation infront of Parliament that coloured persons be removed from their BEE status, and then to be labelled in the manner which she did. Is it coincidence or not. I do not care. She needs to be reprimanded. The sad thing is that she is in the media industry and they would always try and protect their own. Yes she grew up in Cape Flats, She has "SO CALLED COLOURED KIDS". Kuli needs to sit back look in the mirror, and will find that she is a racist by heart, skin and soul.

Exactly.

I watched the so called interview, what a waste of my freaking time. Got bored 5 minutes into the show and I could not handle it anymore and switched channels. That level ofdebate is just not for me.

Why aren't Indian and White people complaining about so many thing that Kuli has written about them?
Like what?

Because they know Kuli's column is to for making us laugh at ourselves!
You happen to be colured I presume!!!!!

Makisto,Phil wrote something about Xhosas remember. From that article, how many Xhosas were amused by that article? Did they take it too kindly or were they offended?

Btw, Phil happen to be black but not Xhosa.

Speak for yourself when you are laughing at your own and not the rest.

These coloureds r jst plain hypocratic(if there is such a word)they act like they innocent bona thy dnt say *bleep!* abt other raceS bt they do. You should here the RUDE things they say abt us blacks all the time, using the K word like nobodies business.

They dont even knw why they complaining cz sum acknowledge tht Kuli was ryt bt its the "tone"tht she used,WTF does tht mean its either shez wrong or ryt *bleep!* da tone. Eish coloured people was Kuli wrong? There are things called facts. I often wondered why most coloureds have no teeth. Kuli makes us laugh at ourselves. She doesnt choose who she attacks and she is not racist. She once even attacked her own sister Hlubi. So coloureds take a chill pill and laugh along with the rest of South Africa. I am a fat lady and if someone comes and tell me I am fat why should I get angry when all I have to do is go to the mirror and look at myself. Keep up the good hilarous work Kuli. You make us laugh

Arghh...are people really angry about this?? Now really?

I think there's a difference between generailisation and racism.

Are coloureds not black kanti?

so what if coloureds are black, does that make it right to downrite diss them like   that not knowing what they have been through? coloureds and blacks have been through the same struggles and by Kuli doing what she did makes it feel like we are the opressed as in the apartheid era...I am coloured myself and well established i might add, could it be i boarded a plane?  yes it could be, could it be i had motivation all my life yes it could be, then why should generalised comments be passed by someone that does not know that.......Im sure all the racist whites must have enjoyed the article because they were conquered by the democracy but now our own people are going against us.....Lets motivate each other and not break one another. In all honesty i totally disagree with what Kuli wrote and hope the controversy around the article makes people realise that it was in fact not based on fact but on mere hatred and hipocrisy.
