Ekasi: Mama's boy

Ja nee one has seen some bad TV in his short life but ekasi our stories takes the cake. I thought last week episode wass bad due to the fact that it was the first of the series and the guys had not got enough time to spruce it up a bit. Last night’s Mama’s boy was the final nail for me, I am not going to waste my time infront of the screen watching this dribble. No more,I say. Mama’s boy at least had less crash zooms as ‘secret lovers’ but that was the one and only improvement.Mama’s boy just proved to me that the series is crap and I don’t need to torture myself no more watching the following episodes, cause I don’t see any improvement on the horizon.

Etv should be ashamed of itself for fighting such poorly produced and funded project like Ekasi; The acting is too theatrical bordering on being tacky, the production value is really scrapping the bottom of the barrel. I was watching last night episode and Vusi Twala ( who is the director, writer and producer) was credited as an online editor too,and I was asking myself what the hell did he do cause the visual are as bland as the nollywood movies. But aside from aesthetics the story was conceived and executed badly. For the first 35 minutes nothing happened, the people kept on coming back to the same point over and over again. Yes we got the point the guy loves staying at home within the first 15 minute, but there was no progress from that. I don’t know how many times did the story keep going in circles , there was no build ,no dramatic tension. Then there were those dodgy empty scenes of the guy driving around and it felt as if it needed something to liven them up or just to be cut out completely.

The sound design is also so 80’s I’m shocked that the series is produced by someone born of our generation who should know better. The music s so over the top ,it aint funny,Vusi my man what were you thinking. But I don’t lay all the blame on Vusi Twala’s feet but on etv. I bet the guys did not have much of budget to even get music composed or even a descent sound library. But etv should be ashamed,I say it again ASHAMED etv, for putting such a dodgy and poorly constructed show on tv and marketing it as something that reflects our reality.Sies on you, etv proves what a cousin of mine always says “if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys” and that’s we’ve been getting with this series, which makes me wonder what sort of peanuts is etv pumping into ekasi production.Sies man, we deserve better.

I was expecting that this was gonna  crap, so I was not dissapointed at all. The title should have been 'Andile and the suitcase'

Pearl is cute...her office looked like it had kitchen furniture though...

Vusi seriously needs to stop writing and producing crap..I don't know who lied to him coz clearly he is not talented.

The characters inthat TV series define bad actirs and actresses...I take back mt thought on thinking Etv was classier that the SABC...Aowa that TV series was like some sort of "Hlala kwabafileyo" that was once aired on the SABC.What a huge disappointment from Etv.Im done with this Ekasi series.

Guys, i think Vusi Twala has failed in reaching the matured audince dismally!!!!!!

I am not going to continue to slave my eyes to this rubbish.i think Vusi should actually go to the underdeveloped AFRICAN countries then he will be a hit, not in SA and not this time!!!

Everything was of poor quality. i slept on the sofa till 10:30pm i didn't even finish the drama.

I'm out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was watching last night episode and Vusi Twala ( who is the director, writer and producer) was credited as an online editor too,and I was asking myself what the hell did he do cause the visual are as bland as the nollywood movies

13 Oct 2009 17:18

I watched the first 30 minutes or so, I think and I passed out and woke up to go to bed. It was really bad! I did not even get to see Treasure Tshabalala if he was in it, Bad acting, and the bad story line.

1. The empty suitcase, the guy should have been taught how to pretend it had some clothes..........he was just dragging the thing and it was soo obvious that it was empty.
2. When Pearl's mother cried when she told her that she is moving out, have never heard or seen such from our mothers

Awu cha ngeke, next week I will just sleep after generations as there is no boston legal on welfare TV

14 Oct 2009 11:50

H24 I tried mentioning the same last week but bloggers had already made their minds that it is Shado's son.

I still maintain that this is not as bad as people make it out to be. People are over-used into this fairy land that is being displayed in other stories where you would find even the cleaner/gardner wearing make-up.

I believe that this is raw tv unedited, in real life people make mistakes even if they are fluent in English. The acting, picture and sound quality even matches if not the same as the environment we currently living in.

Pajero
14 Oct 2009 15:07

the bad acting and story line is the same as those popular nigerian dramas of the "my friend". All those dramas are crap as this ekasi drama. But we watch them and end up loving them. There is nothing better to watch in tv so to people who are couch potatoes like me are forced to watch that crap. It gives us something to talk about.  And become editors, producers and so on in our couches. Damn this recession

The hooting thing during visitations and after 3 seconds people will get out running and saying they were sleeping and they are still wearing the same clothes they were wearing during ... The whole episode was supposed to be 15 minutes only

15 Oct 2009 00:02

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT! Are you telling me that this show is longer than 30 minutes??!!!! C'mon, that's crazy-stupid. As an actor (Montana, Dalene) in a local series, I'm seriously disappointed at the bad quality of this show. We also only had one camera! All we got was 30 minutes. And then etv misuses their audience with this?! Hayi!

@One and Only: Raw and unedited with no makeup, when done well with open eyes by those involved and good actors who can pull that raw style of tv off, is perfect. This just ain't cutting cheese!

15 Oct 2009 15:31

ooops so its not Shados son...there I was thinking its just NOT like him..Simunye's "Vush Twalorr"  seems to be on the know  about ama what what we-industry even though  he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the talent box......as for Treasure Shablala  somehow he (or his agency ) always get the crapiest shows (except his recurring Genrabish role..in which he's not exaclty breaking any new ground..)...remember him in Nomzamo..what WAS THAT!!! and now this......i guess money talks

Chantal  becareful girl you dont wanna burn yo bridges with etv..who knows they mite be plannin somethin exciting with your name all over it...(BY The way some acting in Montana could be betta..although the story is great ...i think there are very few older female actors who are as skilled as abo-Lilian Dube so they just find some mama from a theatre production or sumthin... most mamas in stories are really "ACTING" and its annoying

One & Only...bad script bad story lines and lastly and most importantly BAD aCTING all have nothing or VERY little to do with editing and makeup....you can get teh best movie/drama for a low budget with a hand held camera and no editing but we can recognize an excellent piece of work when we see it..and THIS AINT IT...period!!

We also only had one camera! All we got was 30 minutes. (Take it up with SABC it is not etv's fault that you guys got 30 minutes, that's your beef with SABC I guess)
And then etv misuses their audience with this? (Don't particularly feel misused. If I don't like something I have the good sense not to watch it, so noone is forced to watch it)
