Ja nee one has seen some bad TV in his short life but ekasi our stories takes the cake. I thought last week episode wass bad due to the fact that it was the first of the series and the guys had not got enough time to spruce it up a bit. Last night’s Mama’s boy was the final nail for me, I am not going to waste my time infront of the screen watching this dribble. No more,I say. Mama’s boy at least had less crash zooms as ‘secret lovers’ but that was the one and only improvement.Mama’s boy just proved to me that the series is crap and I don’t need to torture myself no more watching the following episodes, cause I don’t see any improvement on the horizon.
Etv should be ashamed of itself for fighting such poorly produced and funded project like Ekasi; The acting is too theatrical bordering on being tacky, the production value is really scrapping the bottom of the barrel. I was watching last night episode and Vusi Twala ( who is the director, writer and producer) was credited as an online editor too,and I was asking myself what the hell did he do cause the visual are as bland as the nollywood movies. But aside from aesthetics the story was conceived and executed badly. For the first 35 minutes nothing happened, the people kept on coming back to the same point over and over again. Yes we got the point the guy loves staying at home within the first 15 minute, but there was no progress from that. I don’t know how many times did the story keep going in circles , there was no build ,no dramatic tension. Then there were those dodgy empty scenes of the guy driving around and it felt as if it needed something to liven them up or just to be cut out completely.
The sound design is also so 80’s I’m shocked that the series is produced by someone born of our generation who should know better. The music s so over the top ,it aint funny,Vusi my man what were you thinking. But I don’t lay all the blame on Vusi Twala’s feet but on etv. I bet the guys did not have much of budget to even get music composed or even a descent sound library. But etv should be ashamed,I say it again ASHAMED etv, for putting such a dodgy and poorly constructed show on tv and marketing it as something that reflects our reality.Sies on you, etv proves what a cousin of mine always says “if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys” and that’s we’ve been getting with this series, which makes me wonder what sort of peanuts is etv pumping into ekasi production.Sies man, we deserve better.
