Episode Title: Charged Like A Fool
Broadcast Date: Wednesday, 10 June 2009 at 21h30
Channel: SABC2

Petrol Cards are said to be a convenient and safe way to pay for fuel and are accepted by all major garages. But what happens when you are charged more than the fuel you received?

Speak Out's complainant used his petrol card to pay for fuel at a local garage. After his card was swiped, he signed a slip for one amount but later realised that he was charged for 10 times the amount of petrol that he received.

The garage refused to help him for months, saying that the situation wasn't their problem.

Speak Out goes in search of answers.

This rang very true to me - just last week I was out with a friend who has eye-sight difficulties and I got stressed for him when he paid for something. He gave the person his credit card and they wondered off with it to do the transaction and I watched them like a hawk - it got me thinking about how vulnerable he is to such things 'cos he woulnd't be able to see what they were doing with it.

Also things being over-charged on things - speaking of which! Did you know that if Pick 'n Pay overcharges you for something - if the price they ring up's different from what's with the product on the shelves - if you spot it they give you money back - for the full product.
