As usual with APCH one week we have a brilliant episode the next a so – so episode; last night featured the re-emergence of Cassius and the great South African past time of torching people, yep another filler episode.
For a filler episode it was not that bad, the two main stories that we were following last night was that of “Looser” Sphiwe and Mavesta’s henchman (the other dude with the belly and manicured beard not Duke er ..I meant Hudson ). Poor Sphiwe seems to have a pile of rotten luck, maybe that’s what happens when a gorgeous girl dumps you, he has lost the girl, the job and the best friend. Last night he’s conscious could not let him be. Since Cassius went AWOL on the show poor Sphiwe and myself actually, have not given a second thought to whatever happened to the clown prince of APCH. The nipping dogs of a guilty conscience were hard on Sphiwe’s heels the whole of last night episode and the future of being a doomed writer was not making things any easier. But I really did not find any of this intriguing or dramatic at all.So expect Sphiwe to be running around Jozi next week looking for Cassius , oh how exciting, not.
On the b story , was another tale of Xenophobia. Which tries to convince us that at the heart of Xenophobia is greed, selfishness and jealousy. Judging by the rumours emanating from Ethikwini, of more xeno violence, it seems we still need to learn these lessons. The interesting part for me in this story was showing the henchman’s life outside Sylvester. That he too has a mouth to feed and family back home that needs money. His scheming ways as he uses the dirty looking – I – could-rob-you – at – night ignorant mzansi folks and their prejudice to scare the poor Kwame dude out of his wits and spazza shop. Cause in Mzansi we rock like that we don’t want to see “foreigners’ being successful especially if you can insinuate that they are somehow involved in misdemeanours or crime. The story also showed that uMavesta is a really horrible and bad man. Who, although he takes protection money from these people, unlike Don Corleone when they have a problem he does not fix it nor care what happens to them as long as he gets his money. He kinded reminded me of Paulie in Goodfellas anyhow now we saw how heartless he can get it. Or is it capitalism? That justifies Mavesta’s action Mmmmh?
Anyhow the episode helped the henchman to at least to step out of Mavesta and Hudson shadow, now if I can only remember his name. It help to show that he is both cunning, deceitful and brutal. Well as he takes over Kwame’s business it should be interesting how it would feel for him to be at the receiving end of Mavesta’s business practise. It’s a wait and see scenario. But other than that last night episode left me in need of something more tangible and exciting, hopefully next week episode will be better.sweet.
