At long last we have the face off between Moferefere and Sylvester, lindiwe cleans up and looks mighty hot and pretty . Whilst Mehlothi feels the pinch of being spare wheel. A well written and executed episode of APCH ,in my humble books. It’s a pity I missed the first 10 minutes but I loved every minute I got to see.
For weeks I’ve been going on about that, we need a face off between Moferefere aka Stinky with the top dog of the show Sylvester aka Mavesta. What do we get? Something Tarantino would be proud off ; a peace pow wow on the roof tops of Jozi with both the protagonists in leather jacket and the camera swirling around them. A surprise child hood memory : It seems poor Moferefere was bullied by Sylvester and co in primary and he has been holding a grudge all his life, offing the bullies one by one and Sylvester is the last one left.I don’t know if I would kill people for dunking my head in lavatory filled with you-know-what and then call me names like “stinky” afterwards, during school hours nogal.
But I could relate with the young Moferefere grabbing that table knife and wanting revenge. Most of us young black males who grew up in a culture of machismo and violence( aka the township in the 80’s0 have found ourselves ( the unfortunate ones) in a situation where u loose a fight or something and you run home to get that knife, fortuneatly I never used it but I have two or so incidences in my life and some of my cousins life were something like that happened. Some may say it’s a cop-out to use childhood memory of bullying as a chief motivator for Stinky’s actions but I bought it.
I even bought Mavesta’s noble thug act, him kneeling down and saying all that corny stuff that he is apologising for the trauma he imposed on young Moferefere, really got me.I thought it was quite profound but I’m a sentimentalist and it seems under Stinky’s hardcore exterior just like Mavesta’s hardcore demeanour is a little emo-child acting out it’s repressed unresolved kiddie issues in a mans body. How many man-childs do we see in our street corners? Anyhow Sylvester’s character has really grown since he was first introduced, to such an extend I could believe that he wanted peace with Moferefere , that he was willing to humble himself and just maybe there might be a way out for the man from the mean jozi streets. Although poor Stinky was crying like a baby and he seemed to have been touched by Mavesta’s actions, it seems he still wants to off poor Mavesta. The future is very ominous for Mavesta, this should make for interesting drama in the following weeks.
Then the biggest looser from last weeks episode, our dear Sphiwe has realised the errors of his way. From I can’t have a woman take care of me to realising having someone special in your life goes beyond ego tripping, that ego has to take a back seat in love sometimes. Unfortuneatly for him uLindiwe is doing very well and my my my she looks very hot without all that street grime but she still has that looser producer so it’s going to be very hard for the two to get back together. But I’ll be crossing fingers for them though. But I like how Sphiwe’s regret was handled in the fantasy sequence in this episode, the use of Casius as Sphiwe’s guilty conscious worked nicely for me.It was way better than last weeks “tied down metaphor”.
Poor Mehloti, she is like the patron Saint of misery on this show. After being busted last week in bed by wife number 1.This week she had a taste of how it would feel to be a mistress/ concubine/ 2nd wife, living with the first wife in the same house. It didn’t help matters that the KZN lady was actually very nice and was good at putting on the guilt with stuff like “ you can be the city wife and I will be the country wife, all I want is a father for my son.I really don’t care for the man”. With the virtues of having a male role model being thrown left ,right and centre at poor Mehloti. She ended up being all selfless and saying goodbye to her main squeeze so that he can go of to be a better father to the other kid. While she struggles with her kid and one on the way, poor woman yikes I really feel for her. Maybe Mavesta will take her under her wing, lol , anything is possible.
But generally I truely loved yesterdays episode ,it did not feel like a “filler episode”.There was a lot of story development, character development, reveals the edit was slick as usual .Prooving to me APCH is a jewel in the rough which many have not truly seen it for what it is. I hope the show keeps on building and not slowing down. Ah the joy of a good drama.
