Miracles still happen in Mzansi, no matter what the people say,
Behind the Rainbow a very clever and thought provoking doccie that is STILL on circuit (at your nearest cinema nouveau for all you sophisticated ...er i mean pretentious cats out there) will be broadcasted on
Sunday 8pm on SABC 2. (loud applause for SABC) ,how many can someone actually applaud SABC, ja nee. So we can all equaly watch this great doccie without having to pay the R45 and sit to some dodgy arty-filmmaker wannabe at Rosebank.
So what's the fuss all about, the doccie deals with the two protagonist in this storm in a tea cup that has engulfed the country and has given birth to COPE, HIV showers, the death of the scorpions and all. It deals with JZ aka jiggaman and Thibo touch aka the Chief aka Thabo Mbeki's relationship during the apartheid years and to the tumulous times that we find ourselves in.By showing and telling both sides of the stories, by using archive material, interviews and new insightful and candid interviews, the doccies tries to uncover the challenges and problems that ace the ANC and the country in the embodiment of Chief and Jiggaman.
It's basically a story about the ANC and the struggle for the soul of it as embodied by it's "two leaders" and how things fell apart. It features Terror, Thibos, Jiggaman and a whole lot of guys and they speak frankly and honestly about the past and their new found rivalry, from brothers in arms to enemies who want to cross swords,It's all very Shakesperian. The struggle and foils of power that has come to haunt the ANC, is very evident in the two protagonist relationship. The doccie brings it all to foreground.
Directed by Jihan El Tahri, a native lady of Lebanon,is a multi award winning director whose worked for Reuters amongst other news agencies and has done doccies all over the world. The film is a co production between Big World Cinema ( a South African company) and Big Sister & ITVS international (foreign companies). The doccie is produced by Steven Markovitz who has produced the Project 10 documentary series that played sometime ago when Mzansi fo Sho was still Yamampela .Markowitz also produced Tim Greene's "A boy called twist" feature film. So theres experience and talent behind the doccie and you can see it in the quality of the picture, content and on how the old material and the new material is used together to create both an insightful and provoking subject matter.
Given that the election are just around the corner and the birth of COPE and all the stuff that is happening in the country. This doccie will serve as a nice meal to contextualise the state that we fnd ourself in and also to show how power really erodes the goodness in the heart of man( or liberation movements). So lets watch it on Sunday and lets chat afterwards.sweet
