The Daleks approach Rose, Mickey and Rajesh with cries of “Exterminate”, but Rose stops them in their tracks by saying that she knows what they are. She says that if they want to know how a human can know about the Daleks and the Time War, then they need to keep her and her friends alive.

The Dalek says that Rose will be necessary, and then asks another one about the status of the Genesis Ark. That Dalek replies that it is in hibernation. It turns to face the Genesis Ark, which is a vaguely Dalek-shaped object, and places its sucker on the side.

In the rift chamber, Jackie asks what has happened to Rose, and the Doctor replies that he doesn't know. He goes on to promise that he'll find Rose and get the two of them out safely.

The Cyberleader makes a TV broadcast saying that it's not necessary to fear the Cybermen as they will remove fear, and everyone will become identical. This has the effect of sending the world into a mass panic, and the military try to fight back, but without success.

In the sphere chamber, one the Daleks asks who the least important is. Rajesh says that it's his responsibility and anything the Daleks want to know he'll tell them, just as long as they leave Rose and Mickey alone.

The Daleks request that Rajesh kneel, They then proceed to retrieve the necessary information from Rajesh by placing their suckers on his head and accessing his memories that way, a process which ends up killing him.

The Daleks learn of the Cybermen from Rajesh's memories, so one of them is sent to investigate. Meanwhile, the leader of the Cybermen sends two Cybermen to the sphere chamber.

The Dalek and Cybermen meet and trash talk each other, while everyone else watches the encounter on screens in their respective locations. When Jackie learns that the Daleks are in Torchwood, she becomes concerned about Rose and addresses that concern to the Doctor.

The Doctor takes Jackie's phone and uses it to call Rose who answers but doesn't say anything. Through the phone the Doctor overhears one of the Daleks mention the Genesis Ark. He puts his 3D glasses back on to watch the Dalek-Cyberman meeting.

The Cybermen propose an alliance with the Dalek, but it refuses. The Cybermen open fire, but the bullets bounce of the Dalek. It fires back at the Cybermen, destroying them.

The Cyberleader opens a direct video link and speaks to the other Daleks, saying that they have declared war on the Cybermen. The Dalek responds by saying that they only need one Dalek to wipe out all the Cybermen.

The Dalek end the communication, but as it does so it notices the Doctor in the background. It picks up that Rose's heartbeat has increased and demands that she tell it who the Doctor is, something which she gleefully does. The Daleks all take a step back, or at least the Dalek equivalent of stepping back.

The Cyberleader orders that the sphere chamber be quarantined and that emergency upgrades take place. The Cybermen lead away the Torchwood personnel, including Yvonne and Jackie.

The Cyberleader tells the Doctor that he is proof that emotions destroy people. The Doctor replies that hope is a good emotion and that it's arrived.

At point, armed men appear from nowhere and take out the Cybermen in the room. After the Cybermen have been destroyed, one of the men takes off his mask, revealing himself to be Jake.

Yvonne is subjected to the upgrade process, but as a Cyberman starts to drag Jackie away for her turn, it stops and tells another Cyberman that the Cyberleader has been terminated and that it will now become the leader. Jackie uses their conversation as an opportunity to slip away into a stairwell.

The Doctor looks at Jake through his 3D glasses before saying that they can't have come from the parallel world. Jake says that they did and hands the Doctor a disc on a chain like the one he's wearing around his neck. Jake says that they have their own version of Torchwood and invites the Doctor to take a look, before pressing his disk.

They appear in the parallel Torchwood where they are met by Pete Tyler. The Doctor says that he needs to get back, but Pete replies that he's going to listen for once.

In the sphere chamber, Mickey shows Rose his disc and says he could transport out of there, but it only carries one and he's not leaving Rose. He wonders why the Daleks have kept him alive, and Rose realises what might be happening.

She tells Mickey that the first time she saw a Dalek her touch brought it back to life. When someone travels in time, they soak up background radiation, and during the Time War the Daleks developed the ability to use this radiation as a power source. If the Daleks have something inside the Ark that needs waking up then they need either Rose or Mickey, as both of them have travelled in time.

Mickey wonders why the Daleks would build something they can't open, and a Dalek interrupts, saying that it was the Time Lords who built the Ark. Rose asks what is inside of it, and the Dalek replies, “The future”.

On the parallel Earth, Pete and Jake tell the Doctor that they sealed the Cybermen inside the factories, but people argued, saying that they were living and should be helped. While the debate raged on, the Cybermen made plans, infiltrated Torchwood and mapped themselves onto the Doctor's world.

Pete tells the Doctor that temperature have reason by two degrees in the past six months and the ice caps are melting. He asks the Doctor if it's the breach, and the Doctor confirms it.

He goes on to say that every time somebody or something crosses the Void it rips a hole in the universe and if it carries on, eventually both worlds will fall into the Void. Pete asks the Doctor for his help, and he agrees.

They return to the original Earth, and the Doctor makes a phone call to Jackie, who confirms that she's alive. The Doctor then approaches the Cybermen and surrenders to them.

In the sphere chamber, the Daleks announce that the final stage is ready and all they need is Rose's handprint. She refuses, but they threaten to kill Mickey if she doesn't help them.

Rose tries to stall for time by telling them that she killed the Dalek Emperor. The Daleks' response is that she will be exterminated.

A voice from the door of the chamber protests. The voice is that of the Doctor, who is once again wearing his 3D glasses.

The Daleks ask how the Doctor survived the Time War, and he tells them that is was by fighting on the front line. He asks what's so special about these Daleks, who are the last four in existence, and Rose tells him that they have names.

The Daleks introduce themselves, and the Doctor realises that they are the Cult of Skaro, a secret order of Daleks whose job it was to think like the enemy, hence the names. Mickey asks about the Genesis Ark, and the Doctor says that he's never seen it before, as both sides had secrets.

The Daleks demand that the Doctor open the Ark, but he refuses. They say that he has no way of resisting, which he agrees to, but he points out that he has his sonic screwdriver, and while it may be harmless, it is very good at opening doors.

He activates it, and the doors to the chamber explode. The Cybermen and Jake's team enter and begin firing at the Daleks. The Doctor, Rose and Mickey make their escape, but as Mickey is trying to get away he loses his balance and accidentally places his hand on the Genesis Ark.

The Daleks destroy the Cybermen and then announce that the Genesis Ark is primed. They say that the Ark needs and area of thirteen square miles and they begin to move it.

The Doctor, Rose, Mickey and Peter run down a corridor. Mickey apologises for touching the Ark, but the Doctor tells him that he Daleks would have got the Ark open anyway, but it would have required them to blow up the sun. So Mickey actually did everyone a favour.

Jackie notices two Cybermen in the stairwell and so exits into the nearest corridor. She is confronted by two Cybermen who tell her that she will be upgraded, but before they can do anything they are blown to pieces by Pete. Pete and Jackie have an awkward conversation before running towards each other and hugging.

Elsewhere, the Daleks take on the Cybermen and for about a minute, the dialogue only consists for the words “Exterminate” and “Delete”. The Daleks gain the upper hand, and the Cyberleader sends out a message ordering all Cybermen to converge on the Torchwood tower. We see Cybermen marching down the street, but I'm not sure how those in India are supposed to get to Torchwood.

The Doctor peers into the room where the battle is taking place and then sneaks in, picks up two alien devices which Yvonne had shown him earlier, and sneaks out again. He peers back in a few moments later, this time wearing his 3D glasses.

The Daleks override the roof mechanism and it opens. They and the Genesis Ark begin to rise into the open air.

The Doctor and his party return to the rift chamber at the top of the tower, where they watch as the Genesis Ark opens and Daleks start to fly out. The Doctor comments that it's a Time Lord device which is bigger on the inside that the outside. Mickey asks what it is, and the Doctor replies that it's a prison ship housing millions of Daleks.

A mass battle between the Daleks and Cybermen ensues, and Pete says that this world has had it and he's going home. He gives Jackie one of the discs and tells her that there's another world waiting for her which is safe as long as the Doctor closes the breach. He asks if the Doctor is ready, and the Doctor says that he is, once again wearing the 3D glasses.

Rose says that they can't just leave and asks about the Daleks and Cybermen. The Doctor replies that they're part of the problem, which means they're part of the solution.

He asks whether anyone's going to ask him about his glasses, and Rose does. He takes off the glasses and gives them to Rose, explaining that anyone who has travelled through the Void is surrounded in “Void Stuff”. Rose looks through the glasses and sees that the Doctor, Pete, Mickey and Jake are all surrounded by particles.

The Doctor says that because the Daleks lived in the Void and the Cybermen travelled through it, they're covered in Void Stuff. All he needs to to is open the Void and it will pull them all in.

Rose points out that they're all contaminated, and the Doctor says that's why she will have to go to Pete's world. He'll only open the Void from one side, and he'll avoid being sucked in by holding on to a magnaclamp, one of the devices he took earlier.

Rose says that she's not going, and Jackie says that she's not going without Rose. As Rose tries to explain to Jackie why she must stay and Jackie must go, the Doctor walks up behind her and places the disc Jake gave him around Rose's neck. Pete activates his disc and everyone travels to the parallel world, leaving the Doctor behind.

Rose isn't very happy, and she presses her disc and travels back. On his world, Pete tells a distraught Jackie that they can't go back as it will damage the whole world.

The Doctor tries to convince Rose to return, saying she'll never see her mother again. Rose replies that she made her choice a long time ago and she's not leaving him. She asks what she can do to help, and the Doctor tells her to set all the co-ordinates to six.

Once she's done this, Rose notices on a monitor that Cybermen are approaching the chamber. In the stairwell, one of the Cybermen says that they will retreat through the breach and regain the homeworld.

They're stopped before they reach the rift chamber by the Cyberised Yvonne, who has somehow managed to break free of her programming. She tells them that they will not pass and opens fire.

The Doctor and Rose set up the magnaclamps next to the levers. They pull the levers and then grab hold of the clamps just as a group of Daleks arrive.

The Void opens and the Daleks are sucked in. The Doctor and Rose are pulled towards the Void but manage to maintain a grip on the clamps.

The Daleks and Cybermen begin to be sucked into the Void. Somehow they end up not travelling in a straight line, but rather take a route which avoids any further property damage. One Dalek who doesn't get sucked in is Dalek Sek, the leader of the Cult of Skaro, who activates an emergency temporal shift and vanishes.

As the Daleks and Cybermen continue to be sucked in, there is a small explosion and Rose's lever shifts back into the off position. Rose reaches for it, but in order to do so she lets go of her magnaclamp. She manages to push the lever back into the on position and the Void reopens, pulling at Rose once again.

Rose can't hang on and is forced to let go. She is pulled towards the breach, but before she reaches it, Pete appears and catches her. He activates his disc, and the two of them return to the parallel Torchwood. The breach closes, leaving the Doctor alone.

While Rose leans against a wall crying, the Doctor walks up to the wall where the breach was. He puts his ear against the wall and Rose turns her head and puts her ear against the wall, and the two of them stand like that for a while.

The scene fades to black and then we hear the Doctor's voice whispering Rose's name. Rose's voice-over kicks in again as we see her lying in bed, explaining that the previous night she had a dream that she heard a voice calling her name. She tells Mickey, Jackie and Pete, and the four of them get into Pete's Jeep and drive off, following the voice.

They arrive on the beach which opened the previous episode, and Rose walks away from the others, with her voice-over saying that this is the story of how she died. An image of the Doctor appears. He explains that there's one tiny gap left in the universe, and he's in the TARDIS, using the power of a supernova to send the projection so that he can say goodbye.

The Doctor asks where the gap came out, and Rose says that they're in Norway. So in the space of twenty-four hours they've managed to get from England to Norway in a Jeep. That's pretty impressive travelling.

Rose tells the Doctor that they're in a place called Dårlig Ulv Stranden. The first word sounds almost like Dalek, and the name translates to “Bad Wolf Bay”, which is a pretty cool coincidence.

The Doctor notices that Rose still has Mickey, and Rose tells him that there are now five of them, as there's a baby on the way. The Doctor asks if it's her, but Rose tells him that Jackie's the one who is pregnant.

After initially faking him out by claiming that she's back at the shop, Rose tells the Doctor that she's now working for Torchwood as she knows a thing or two about aliens. The Doctor informs Rose that back home she's officially dead, which explains the whole “Story of how I died” business.

Rose asks the Doctor what he'll do, and he says that it'll be the same old life, travelling in the TARDIS on his own. Rose tries to say something but can't get it out initially.

She manages on the second attempt, and tells the Doctor that she loves him. The Doctor appears to be about to tell Rose that he loves her, but his image fades away before he can complete the sentence, leaving the Doctor alone in the TARDIS and Rose alone on the beach.

Jackie runs over to Rose to comfort her, while in the TARDIS, the Doctor walks around the console with a distinct lack of enthusiasm. He has a shock when he sees a woman in a wedding dress standing next to the TARDIS entrance, who demands to know where she is.

Quotes

Cyberman: Our species are similar, though your design is inelegant.
Dalek Thay: Daleks have no concept of elegance.
Cyberman: This is obvious.

Cyberman: Daleks, be warned: you have declared war upon the Cybermen.
Dalek Sek: This is not war. This is pest control.
Cyberman: We have five million Cybermen. How many are you?
Dalek Sek: Four.
Cyberman: You would destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?
Dalek Sek: We would destroy the Cybermen with one Dalek. You are superior in only one respect.
Cyberman: What is that?
Dalek Sek: You are better at dying.

Rose: Five million Cybermen - easy. One Doctor? Now you're scared.

Pete: Doctor... help us.
The Doctor: What? Close the breach? Stop the Cybermen? Defeat the Daleks? Do you believe I can do that?
Pete: Yes.
The Doctor: Maybe that's all I need.

Pete: In my world, it worked. All those daft little plans of mine. They worked. Made me rich.
Jackie: I don't care about that....How rich?
Pete: Very.
Jackie: I don't care about that....How very?
