The lowdown on my short film and the music video that I've been shooting. All firsts , all major headaches and the best time time I guy can wish for.It just meant no time for blogging, so hence the long silence.
First thing first, after Pule's success with "Tumelo" and a close friend of mine just completed his first short film "Delivery".I realised if I'm waiting for things to be perfect, to get the right budget and talent I may never ever get my "film career" off the ground. So I took a leaf from Pule and Thato's book, just do it was the motto. And thats what I did.
Ive been working on the script for 3 months, not because it complex ,just because i procastinate a lot.Yes,I'm a passive as most Tauruses. But I finaly had a decent draft.Send a shout out on facebook for actors and guess what, people did respond.Ok mostly my cousins and friends but hey beggars can't be choosers.Unless your uncle Bob and your president of the Zimbabwe, but thats another story.
So three weekend on a satrurday at 7pm principal photography started on theshort film. We started shooting from 7pm finished the next morning at 8pm.Most of thestory happened in one night , so you can imagine how tired we were at around 1 or 2 am.But the crew and the cast were great sports and we pushed until 8 ,took a two hour break did one two picks ups and now we have three other scenes to shoot over next weekend and we are done.
Then one of the reason I had to put the film on hold is that i got a break from Gallo.I'd say divine providence some will say a lucky break, that the guys wanted to shoot a video for a young and up coming artist Sandile. He's currently got a single on radio called "undecided".The guy was actually was in season one or two of popstars and had to pull out cause he fell sick when they were at the camp thingy.Yes him. So they asked me tosend in a pitch cause ive been pestering them about the guy since I saw him at the Gallo SAMA nominee party
Well I pitched an idea of doing a video, it was slightly different to the song.Cause the song is all summer, party and having a good time, but we went for a homage to 80's karate and sport films with a twist. Fortuneatly Sandile loved the idea, but the budget was very small. So it meant creative thinking had to take over.So we used cars instead of tracks, we had to use streets instead of paid locations, we had to callin a lot of favours in terms of crew and talent. Poor Sandile had to get a lot ot of people in Sonnerville to offer stuff for free so we could pull off the video.
The shoot dragged a bit, since it was my first video so I was extra cautious doing numerous takes and all.But we've the little we had, we got it made. Now tomorrow im off to show it to the the guys at Gallo and the Artist.i hope they like it.From then ,hopefully they'll flood the market with it.One can only hope.I'll let you guys on how it goes.
(a thousand apologies for no pics, they be up over the weekend, when i have a faster connection) sweet
