Last week I asked some of the bloggers to send me questions they would like Kgotso and Mzo to answer, and as usual they didn’t disappoint. Big ups to
Carino, Sobza,Llcute1, Big Mama33, Toxic and Cody. So on Saturday afternoon I met up with
Mzo and Kgotso at their hotel in the Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg, and no I won’t mention the name of the hotel, I don’t want you guys to stalk the children.
I first met up with Mzo and we were later joined by my sidekick (
ok I think I’m the sidekick, but for this interview we will call her my sidekick – Eish maar naye she likes things).
This is not a good article due to the fact that this is the first time I had to write a dialogue (
I was in Zambia when my Grade 9 English teacher taught my class about writing dialogues). Be warned, this is very long.
Mjj: Mzo, please define yourselfMzo: mhmmmhmhmhmhmhmhmh (after 3 min of mhmhmhm I had to move to the next question)Mjj: Are u just a singer or are there any special talents besides that wonderful voice? Mzo: I love soccer and I’m good at it. Sundowns is my fav club. I also love readingMjj: Reading what? Porn magazines?Mzo: (laughing) No, No, I mean soccer magazinesMjj: Is there anything you feel strongly about that you’re trying to highlight?
Mzo: Yes, I love music and I want to bring the word of God to people through my music Mjj: Can’t you give me childish answers so that I can make fun of you
Mzo: hahahahahahahMy iPhone rings…… Hallo, “Mjj where are you, I can’t see your car, am I in the right place?” Mjj: Yes sidekick you are in the right place, I can see your car……
Mzo: hahahahahhahahahSidekick: Do you guys want juice, I’m so thirsty? Where is the restaurant? (iyaphapha I sidekick yam)Mjj: Good afternoon to you 2 sidekick, and no we are fine, thanks for asking (my sidekick is 3 much yazi)Mjj: Are you ready for the pressures that come with winning such a competition?Mzo: Yes I’m ready, People will have positive and negative things to say about you, I don’t let the negative things affect me because I know who Mzoxolo is and I know the truth (and he said this in English)Mjj: When did you get to the age of understanding, like realizing that you were destined for music?
Mzo: 17 yearsMjj: but that was last year?
Mzo: yes, it was last yearSidekick (
coming back from buying a can of coke): How did you discover you have talent?
Mzo: I always knew I could sing, and everyone who came across my singing complimented my voice. Mjj: If you win the competition, would you move to JHB
Mzo: Yes I would. Mjj: Which of the top 5 do you feel is your biggest competition?
Mzo: Kgotso, Charisma, in fact everyone in the top 5 is good (how diplomatic, now read further and see what Kgotso said after being asked a similar question)Mjj: Other than being a Gospel star, what else do you want to be?
Mzo: Soccer star and also continue studying. I want to do MarketingMjj: Do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend
Mzo: NoSidekick: But I heard you are always flirting on the phone with girls
Mzo: hahahahhahahahha (with a naughty smile)Mjj: No to what? No to girlfriend and yes to boyfriend?
Mzo: No to both (Yes the boy is not gay as I told you b4) Mjj: What do you have to say to people like Carino and Sobza and the rest of your fans that vote fifty times each for you?
Mzo: Thank you (with a big smile)Sidekick? What about school? Mzo: there are only 3 weeks left before the end of the competition. Yes I will go home and write my matric exams, I don’t expect to do well, but I want to at least try my best, so that next year I improve only those subjects I didn’t pass. 
Last week I asked Carino, Sobza and Llcyte1 why they think Mzo should not win. This is what they had to say, followed by Mzo’s response to the comments: He is not yet matured and I dont think He is yet ready for the pressures of the music industry The media can be nasty at times. He has problem in that he cannot sustain his breathing Lindelani mentioned that last weekMzo: This is not about Age, I love what I do, when I sing something happens to people and I am ready for anything. I have no breathing issue when I sing. Yes Nqubeko is helping me in projecting my voice correctly. (he was very adamant that he has no breathing issue, and seeing that Rebecca is also sure that she is the best Gospel Artist in the world, I will agree with Mzo)I think he can get a better deal than this one. He sings very nice to get such an amount of money. Mzo: I’m readyMjj: Kwedini, if you say I’m ready again, I will clap youSidekick: Mjj leave the child aloneMzo: hahahhahahahah, I’ve realized I’m late to go back to school, I’m young and school will always be there. Beside I will go back home and write the exams and if I don’t do well, I will go back to school next year to improve my results. Sidekick: Who is the better singer btw you and Kgotso
Mzo: Kgotso is good and I’m also goodMjj: Thank you Mzo for your time, please don’t answer this woman’s questions anymore
Sidekick: Mjj, can you please take photos of Mzo and myself?

getting annoyed): Yes (
with a big smile, damn I can act as well)
So, Mzo took both my sidekick and myself, to meet with Kgotso, who was smiling from ear to ear.
Mjj: Kgotso, my name is ….. and I write for TVSA. Have you read the articles lately?
Kg: No, Mjj: Why?
Kg: Because in the first 2 articles, someone wrote nasty things about me and that affected my performanceMjj: Child, don’t talk nonsense here, what nasty things? (
ok I didn’t really say it like that)
Kg: mhmhmhmhmmh (
and he starts laughing)
Mjj: Listen here, you are one of the few people that have received fav coverage from the blog……..blablablabla….Mjj: Tshepo Nzimande said he wanted to sign you, would he consider Bula records and does he think Bula can take him where he wants to go?Kgotso: Yes I would but it will depend on the contract…. (he went on about some contract issue I can’t remember and didn’t bother to write)Mjj: People say you imitate keke, is that true? who is your idol...locally? Do you know keke? Are you original?
Kg: no I don’t imitate keke, No I don’t know keke personally, Keke has broken boundaries in respect with his music, my idol is Jabu Hlongwana (why am I not surprise), I am original. South Africans have a wrong mentality about Originality, in fact South African don’t know originality, when someone does something well, they always have to compare them to someone else, That’s why in soccerwhen you play well you are compared or named after famous stars like Maradona(my sidekick was nodding like a woman possessed with demons) ………..if you think I’m not original, wait for my album its coming out soon. Mjj: Whether you win or not (opening my eyes wide)?
Kg: YesSidekick (interrupting again): What direction will your album take? (
She asked the question in an intelligent manner which I can’t articulate back because I didn’t understand what she was asking)
Kg: New creativity is needed in the industry, yes my album will be 80% new songs and 20% hymns. 
Sidekick (interrupting): What’s up with the Ring?Mjj: Ja the ring, where did it come from because you were not wearing it in the first stages of the competition?Kg: The ring has sentimental values, my mother gave it to me, and it’s from her late husband (I started feeling bad about criticizing his ring)Mjj: With the heritage day task were you given an opportunity to research songs or were you asked to sing songs you grew up listening to?
Kg: yes we were given equal opportunity, and yes I chose the song myself. The task depends on how you define heritage, I grew up in the Vaal and was influenced by church songs, I was not exposed to traditional Sotho songs…….(
I started laughing)
Mjj: How did your relationship with God begin?
Kg: Was singing in Church and suddenly I had an encounter with God Mjj: Are you allowed to campaign for votes, call friends and family to vote for you? Have you voted for yourself?
Kg: Yes we are allowed, but I have never voted for myself and don’t believe I should vote for myself. Mjj: Do you know if other contestants vote for themselves?
Kg: no comment (starts laughing)
Mjj: Hey Pastor I’m not a journalist, so answer the question please?
Kg: Yes, I think they do vote for themselves. Mjj: Who do you get along with and who would you like to see win except yourself
Kg: I get along well with Tshepiso, and I think Charisma should win because she’s gifted (I nearly asked in what way?)Mjj: Why should Mzoxolo win?
Kg: #$%#$%$#^%$^%$Mjj (interrupting him): No I said why he should win not why he shouldn't win (
I’m not going to write what he said because I think it will be wrong of me to do so)
Kg: oh, sorry, the fans love himSidekick (
interrupting again): You said Mzo doesn’t ……………..
Kg: blablablablablabMjj: So you think he should win only because the fans love him?
Kg: No no noLungisani (appeared out of the blue): We are leaving nowMjj: its ok, you guys can leave, I’ll drop him @ Melville (
Kgotso starts smiling cause he knows mjj drives a limo)
Lungisani: Ok, cheersSidekick: bye Lungie (
she start laughing)
Mjj: hahahahhahahahha, I love Lungi’s hairstyle (
of course I didn’t say it loud)
Mjj: Since you are a former sex addict aren’t you scared that you will go back to your old ways should you become famous?
Kg: I was famous way before the competition. I have international recognition (he mentioned why he says he is famous, truth be told I wasn’t listening when he explained it)Sidekick: are you really 22
Mjj: don’t answer that, we are getting there later (
I knew she wanted to confirm if her crush for Kgotso was illegal, so I had to stop her).
Mjj: if you win what will you do with the money?
Kg: I will invest it in the industry and my career (I started opening my eyes very wide)… I already have 3 bookings after the competition. Sidekick: Where?
Kg: Vaal, Free State and PretoriaMjj: How will you handle criticism, bad publicity and the pressure of living up to people’s standards?
Kg: I have a church background that teaches and practises discipline, s my church background will carry me. Last week I asked Big Mama33, Toxic and Cody why they think Kgotso should not win. This is what they had to say, followed by Kgotso’s response to the comments: 
Well the only reason I wouldn’t want him to win this competition is so that the producers do not limit him because he’s definitely not a studio artist...he should record live with an audienceKgotso: Yes I agree with thatHis confession about him being a sex addict might work against him because people will be sceptical about having a sex addict as the next gospel star. Sidekick: former sex addict mjj (I pretended as if I didn’t hear the correction)Kgotso: It has never worked against me and will never work against me. Mjj: Thank you very much Kgotso for cooperating, now get to the limo so that we can take you to Melville to meet with the rest of your crew. We got into the car and drove to Melville. I then asked him why does he stand like that when he performs, showing off his ass. He answered by saying he does not do it on purpose, he is a performer and that comes naturally to him, we all started to laugh including Kgotso.
Ladies he was wearing those tight jeans he wore during the heritage day performance. While we were driving to Melville, my sidekick, saw someone driving next to us and she started yelling and even took off her sunglasses. (
Thank God my Limo windows were closed imagine if they were open, damn blacks are such an embarrassment, thank God I’m 3 quarters white and 1 quarter black). Of course I didn’t bother ask my sidekick whom she was waving at.
