I want to Sing Gospel: Boring Episode 3 Recap

Written by mjj from the blog Music on TV : Music Lounge on 17 Aug 2008

Boring, Boring, Boring, Boring – what a Boring episode. I agree with those that said Kenneth should have not been eliminated last week for the sake of providing entertainment for the rest of the episodes. But one thing that came out of yesterday’s show was that the producers do read this blog and take note of some of the things that get suggested in this forum:

1. They got rid of the Big Brother ELIMINATION script – hopefully they were not sued by MNET.
2. The roll-call (Group formation) was shorter than the previous week - courtesy of yours truly.
3. They stole my suggestion without any acknowledgement - the producers decided to include the contestants as part of the joyous celebration concert later this month. The remaining contestants will perform with joyous celebration at Gold Reef City later this month. Guys seeing that you didn’t acknowledge me for this great idea, could you please hook me and the bloggers with 10 VIP tickets for the Joyous celebration show?

Performance
The Challenge for this week was “EAR for MUSIC”. The meaning of that was (Vocal Range: High and Low notes) according to Prof Mkhize. Again the contestants were grouped into 6 groups of 4 and this time a Music Director was provided to help them with their performances. Nqubeko Mbatha of Joyous Celebration and husband to the real Ntokozo Mbambo was thee Music Director. Groups were given ½ hour to prepare their performance with the help of Nqubeko.

Group 1 aka Natural Voices

Jody

3/5, there was nothing spectacular about the group performance except for the man of the moment Jody teaching Ntokozo that language is not a problem when you call yourself a true musician. Jody sang with the group in Zulu/Xhosa & English. Great performance bhuti, and thanks for coming to the party – you are a true professional. I was not happy with Prof’s comments about Mzo holding the group together – oh please, that boy wanted the limelight.
LusandaMzo

In fact Mzo and your boyfriend Lusanda,- who made you music expects? Austine(what a name) is a better singer than both of you, he just looks OLD.

Group 2 aka Revelation
1/5
The group was composed of 2 of the 5 eliminated, Nosipho, Luthando, Thabisa, and Lungisani. Pathetic perform accompanied by a near bitch fight between Nosipho & Thabisa. The only revelation for the group was that, they can’t sing. They stopped in the middle of their performance – what the HELL was that??? And according to Nqubeko they were not good listeners.

Group 3 aka Conquerors
4/5, Kgotso was too loud and Zim was the weakest link in the group. Shame usisi was having a terrible time with an English song. Great performance otherwise.

Group 4 aka Exalters (I think it means to hold up high, might be wrong, I have a lower grade English)
VicAndiswaPertunia

2/5. Composed of Victor whom I think should be singing R&B, Andiswa (WTF was she doing? I blame BS for telling us that Free State people have talent, she actually provided the best entertainment for me), Lungile (apparently not good with contemporary Gospel ) and Pertunia (where were you last week sisi? Change your hairstyle ASAP). Ag the group’s performance was terrible.

Group 5 aka Real Mix
4.5/5
Great performance, still not perfect. In the group there was Sydwell, Ntlanhla, Lee-Ann and Ntokozo (she can sing shame). The group ganged up on Lee-Aan, yepping about her pitching. Don’t agree with Lindelani’s comments about the group relying on Ntokozo – oh please Ntokozo didn’t give the others a chance, she took over and there was nothing the others could do.

Group 6 aka Ithemba
3/5. Par performance with the Lion king singer torturing my eyes and ears with his performance. They should have named the group Tsepiso and Ithemba. Marco should have been eliminated last week already.

Elimination
SydLeeNosiphoLuthandoLungile
6 were eliminated, Sydwell (deserving), Lee-Ann (eish her performance was really not good when it mattered), Nosipho (unfair dismissal), Luthando (no comment) and Lungile (no comment) and Zimkhitha who was later given a lifeline (Zim is so dramatic yazi, her suitcase fell 2 seconds after she was told she has been given a lifeline – I see that Lindelani took note of last week’s comment that they should keep Zim on the show to provide entertainment). Otherwise a total of 5 were eliminated. I also think Marco and Thabisa deserved to be eliminated – their performances were not good at all.

Lungisani
Lungisani
scares me people, I just hope I never meet him in dark corridors – bhuti Discom sells an afro comb and I’m convinced its not more than R5 – kama ezonwele PLEASE. Are you sure you are 26yrs old? You look like my father.
Zim – stick to Xhosa my dear, English is very hard, even politicians say things like “crime of scene” instead of "scene of crime".
CharismaShannon
Yazi people with false teeth can sing JEALOUS DOWN – big ups to both (Charisma & Shanon) – you both represent Kaapstad well.
Jody – you are looking better bhuti , make sure you are taking your pills everyday
Pertunia – usukaphi sisi man?

Listen to Lesedi FM to find out what the eliminated contestants have to say.

Nice recap mjj, just a few questions though

What’s with the hand signals that Lindelani keeps making, no one seemed to have been told what they were for?

What’s with the men and white linen pants, Gaawd the sight of those pants!

mjj
18 Aug 2008 01:54

Ag, Nonny you are correct my sister - there's no one with a "wow factor" in this group of contestants. Sesibukela for the sake of ukubukela, but i hear things will be heating up in the next few episodes, so watch the space. Simmone i'm also not sure about the signals sent by Lindelani and i think most of the groups were not sure about the hand signals as well.

Saw the show for the first time...so I thought it was quite entertaining...in a comical way off course.

Mzo and your boyfriend Lusanda,- who made you music expects? >>> Ha ha ha ...that's really funny.

What’s with the hand signals that Lindelani keeps making >>> I thought I was the only one who didn't get them.

What’s with the men and white linen pants, Gaawd the sight of those pants! >>> Gospel guys don't appear in public without their white pants...

18 Aug 2008 02:10

no one is really worthy of it!!!! >>> I was thinking the same too...unless some people will really shine as the less-talented folks leave the competition. I'm no musical guru but even I know that it's pretty hard to sound good when you are surrounded by "noise"...

no no no mjj! u wrongo!!! Mzo and Lusanfa can sing better that Austine-whoever he is!

What’s with the hand signals that Lindelani keeps making, no one seemed to have been told what they were for?

simmone, except for the taxi signal to town (the up sign) even i was wondering what Lindelani was doing?

Eintlik Lindelani should play a much more active role. I am not happy with him just eliminating and not giving a group by group analysis of the performances. or even telling the eliminated people why they are getting chopped!

Don’t agree with Lindelani’s comments about the group relying on Ntokozo – oh please Ntokozo didn’t give the others a chance, she took over and there was nothing the others could do.

another Rebecca in the morning. A frew more minutes of her perfomance and she would have been lying on the floor!

Zim – stick to Xhosa my dear, English is very hard, even politicians say things like “crime of scene” instead of "scene of crime".

Zim is so dramatic yazi, her suitcase fell 2 seconds after she was told she has been given a lifeline

LMAO!

Great one mjj!!!!!!!!!

You guys don't have listening skills also, Lindelani was signalling to the keyboard player to change the key he was playing in, finger up (play one note higher), finger twirl (repeat), finger down (play one lower)...........etc....If you were listening while watching, you could tell the difference when the song went high or lower......tyhini

@Fluffyhead, you are right hey. I thought about this when I was watching the show last week. There was something very "cheap" about the room where they had the microphones and that mic display thingy didn't look nice at all. It was like some homemade show maan....they could have just used a room with nice walls/carpet.

Great Recap mjj!! Your article is more interesting than the show itself.
The exercise was "Ear for Music" and I'm not sure the contestants got it especially the hand signals( BTW I think they were for
i. Changing the notes UP & DOWN
ii. Continuing with(Repeating) the chorus(the one resembling 'undiyabuya')
iii. Asking them to change ilead singer - this one didn't work kuNtokozo no Lungisani - hence Lindelani said other members relied on uNtokozo as she went on and on...)

I was pleasantly surprised by uNtokozo the girl can sing but she must learn to be versatile ala Jody.
Hay'ke iwhite pants zona even uVuyo Mokoena(Bless His Soul) rocked them.
What's wrong with the PE girlz? Sore Losers or what? First it was uPrecious against uLee-Ann then last week nguThabisa against uNosipho. Take it eazy girls, this is a gospel show!

it was my first time and i must say that - the show lacks something...i cant put my finger on it! Its just dull, the presenter is trying to hard...the peeps can sing. just clash of personality moves you away from the music. gospel is about praising and worshiping God...just wished everyone realised that and truelly sang from their hearts...trust me it works and it would surely would boost the show...

Wena Monwy - leave Lusanda alone - he is a child. Ntokozo has watched to much of Sis Ribs's videos and performances. Did you all see Lindelani's car? Oh my my my -  i want to be a gospel producer as well.

Uyaxoka ke on this one my sister. Mzo can sing and when his voice has an anointing. He sings from the heart.

Marco also has a beautiful voice, I just think he needs to pull up his socks.

Those who were eliminated last night are also good singers but they let themselves down.

As for u Zim, she must really stick to isiXhosa maan, akasophuli uyasiqwabaza isilungu usisi. Undigqibile ke uZim xa ewisa la suit case yazi

U Austine yena angalunga ukucula lamculo waseSwatini. Shongwe and Khuphuka. His voice is suited for that kind of music.

Hello, i am Anderson from Uk,
All these post about HERBAL MEDICINE and spell casters are scammers and fake trying to collect money all in the name of Herpes cure and when you contact them, they will be asking for your name, pictures, country, phone number, occupation and when you have given them all the information, they will be asking for money. I was once suffering from HERPES and i spent a lot of money going from one herbal doctor to another but they all scam and take my money away until i came in contact with this powerful one called Dr. Osas who cured me from Herpes with his herbal medication, after doctor Osas has finished preparing the herbal medicine, he asked me to send him my residential address, so that he will send the herbal medicine to via D.H.L so i did. 2days later, i received the herbal medicine and i had to follow the instructions he gave to me on how i will apply it. 2weeks later i went to hospital for test and according to the test done by the Medical doctor Frank it stated that i was cured.
So viewers be wise and beware of fake spell casters and fake herbal doctors, they are all over the internet trying to steal from poor people. I will drop you the email of this powerful herbal doctor just in case you wish to contact him for help. doctorosasherbalhome@gmail.com or you can call him through his mobile number +2349039537920
