Noah 's Ark - episode 2

So last week was the set up, now the chess pieces are starting to move. Some interesting and engaging elements for me was one: The expansion on Grace (the youngest girl) character. Seeing more of her , her fun and carefree side fighting with her "i want to do good side". Which was made more visible through her interaction with the young boy at the care/voluntary centre.

The second engaging element was seeing and at long last, feeling something for sis Nakedi's character Linda. From her cancer sickness to her loneliness at her book launch when the husband did not pitch and everything from then on. Sis Nakedi put some meat on her portrayal espicially with her confratation with Moses when he came back from the hospital. But I still feel she is still a bit light weight but its a big improvement from last weeks episode.

The third thing I liked about episode 2 is the sub theme of secrets and lies, where every principle character who is part of the household was revealed to be carrying some form of big dark secret that they are hiding from the rest of the family. We all know that when they all start coming out ,they are going to have a major impact on the family one way or the other. As ussual Patrick Shai carried the episode so well, the man is a joy and a marvel to watch.A true South African legend. He's secret is starting to come out and one wonders how will the kids react? Can't wait to see that one.

My gripes though is with one Noah's mother. Her motivation for hiding Noah is just a bit weak for me. Then theres no real chemistry between her and Moses none so ever. Although she clearly has chemistry with Noah and she pulls off the idea of being an arty farty and a free thinker. But last night ep left me very numb  towards her.

Then theres the pacing and changing of scenes,it really bothered me how the scenes in the hospital room were handled. in one you have Noah's mom,ten the next shes just disappeared and you have Moses then they are all there. It seems there was never a motivation for either keeping them (noah's mom and moses) apart or together at the hospital. It was more like a happening than a crafted story where you feel that the absence/ presence of the two in the hospital is both deliberate and you are suppose to feel it.

Then theres Noah lying there the whole time, for a four part series is this guy going to spend almost half the series in hospital.Ai no man, I was like he should wake up next week cause im really eager to see his interaction with Moses family and the wife, the pacing of last night episode was just killing me.The episode felt like it was happening in a two day period but how scenes were juxtaposed it left me with not knowing where exactly am I. Espicially with Grace, moving up and about. It was hard to tell if things are happening immedately after each other or after a long period apart.

But overall not a bad episode indeed but come now lets stop with the tantalising and the foreplay, the chess board is set. The pieces are moving i want to see blood on the dance floor.Yesterday's episode kinda ended the same way as last weeks episode with a promise of things really getting murky.I want to see that, lets get to the confrantation lets raise the stakes now.

The questions u ask r the same q's I asked myself yesterday. Nna I dont feel the Linda that part.
That part needed someone who is very strong.
I love the story and hope Noah will not be in that hospital bed till the end.
Moses is the best I love his acting, but was irritated with the light thing what was that all about?
Is he not scared to be blind............

I programmed a reminder so that I can remember to watch it....eish, I wasn't sold at all. It was just too slow for me...I ended up going for Generubbish instead.

Moses retreated to a place where he felt at ease, whilst everything around him was happening. The soon to be jazz club is his sanctuary to get his mind together. The slow motion of the light was combined with the Noah’s accident sound, to show where most of his thoughts were at that time.

I thought that was done very well and poetically, cause he wanted refuge. So he runs to the jazz club and tries to loose himself and the fulfilment of a childish dream but the thought of Noah, the accident and whats to come.Sit heavily on him and a nicely shown in the jumpcuts in that scene.
The show has lovely touches thats why i'll still be watching come the 4th episode.

I thing it's just a load of rubbish. Old story (wow - long lost son, black white coloured Apartheid - THAT'S ORIGINAL, HUH?), dumb themes, pathetic... CAN'T WE HAVE SOMETHING NEW?

This time it is more about the characters than anything else, but thanks for the bluntness knowitall....

forgot about the characters. they're just sterotypes too. but i guess it helps having the creator to defend it ;)
