So I missed survivour for Noah's ark ? Why did i do this and was it worth it?Mmmm let me answer those questions later. So what's Noah's Ark? If you did not read wernec blog last week :; well Noah's Ark is about a BEE middle class family who seem very affluent and moderately happy whose lives are rocked by the appearance of the fathers loved child. The show sees the reteaming of Nkosheng and Senthalolele, Patrick Shai as Dr. Moses Mokoena and Nakedi Ribane as his ever loyal and bearing wife the psychologist linda Mokoena. Complete with two kids, the abptly named Uhuru ,10 gueses why she was named that and the stone face Grace played by the ever so grim and stoney Moshidi Motshekgwa.
Righ of the bat , Patrick Shai stands neck and shoulders above everyone so far in the series. He seems to be the heart and driving force in the story so far. He's Dr. Mokoena a man in his forties living his second childhood of smoking weed in the garden while hiding from the wife, chasing after childhood dreams of a Jazz bar and just acting like a man-child than a mature adult. The man has tapped into the psyche of his character and when he's childhood fantasys start crashing down ,Patrick flexes his acting muscle like a true pro. You really get a sense that the old ways are about to end and tough times lie ahead for this character. Will the character buckle? Only time will tell.
Ribane's character is a bit aloof and cold in ths first episode but maybe thats how the makers want to play it. Start her off cold and as the drama kicks in we are slowly drawn into her and her issues. We'll have to wait and see on that one. So is Moshidi's character she was not fletched out that much but we got a sense of her issues and drama , so its watch this space as far as these two are concerned.
Then theres the young girl Uhuru, who seems to be on a collision cause with youthful joys and pains . She was not given a lot of screen time but her little appearance set her up sufficiently.
Then theres Noah being played by the late Antonio Summerton who actually died from a car crash last year,if i am not mistaken. It must of been hell for the family to witness him in the show in another car crash and in hospital under coma. We didn't get much from him, as he spent most of the episode on the road and in flashbacks and in a coma at the end, but the ending promised us he's appearance in Johanessburg is going to have massive consequences for all involved. How will the good dr explaining his 30 year old love child, who happens to be a boy from a white woman to his household filled with three black females? How will he handle seeing his old flame? How will Noah react to his old man situation? All very interesting questions that can only be answered by missing another episode of Survivour and tune into SABC 2 again next tuesday at 19h30. Why? Because the show is a proudly South African product? No cause the story and character that was set up in the first episode have a potential of being a truely great and emotionally rewarding experience.
