IDOLS 4: Top 8

Cuppa tea Mara?

Mara's hissy fit was just what the show needed. Some excitement for the night.

I can understand the frustration though - haven't we been complaining about sound quality for ever so long? Hopefully, they will clean up their act and then we can blame the bad singing on the artists instead of the sound. Wonder if they are going to cancel evictions tonight and blame poor sound quality? Wonder if the sound team was taken to task? Wonder if they're going to invite Mara back next year?

The judges continue to torment me, with Dave still looking like Dawie die Kabouter; Mara's temper tantrum abit OTT; Gareth just has to pitch up to piss me off and those spikes he had last night looked very 19-years-old and Randall, well Randall's a bit of allright. Colin was on top form last night. He's sharp as a tack and I like his quirky comebacks more than I do his scripted lines. Plus did I don't think I ever mentioned it but I think Colin is really HOT. He definitely falls into the category of the really, really, ridiculously good looking. *DROOL*

OK, on with the contestants.

So the best for me was Tender. Singing comes effortlessly to her, she doesn't have to strain herself to hit the high notes and she does equally well on the low notes. If this competition was on singing talent alone - my money is on her to win.

Daniel was also very good last night and if he didn't remind me so much of Idol number 1, Heinz, I would probably have liked him more. But it looked as if his whole image was sculpted around HW and it was very scary to watch. Liked the way he ended off his song too. If he keeps it up, I'd say definitely top 3.

HEINZ CLONE
Daniel

The last one in my top 3 would have to be Munro. This is driven more on "sentiment" than anything else. There's just something about him that's endearing. His vocals are good too, not always consistent, but what he has is personality and presence and if he won, I would not be disappointed.

My other favourites disappointed me this week. I finally discovered what it is about Bjorn that bothered me. He's too one dimensional. No depth. It's like his performances are too controlled, worked out to the last second with no room for any spontaneity. I don't know if I'm making sense... But it wasn't only Bjorn. I felt it with Jody and with Yolanda as well.

Their eyes dart all over the place. It's like they're getting ready to deliver their next line with exact precision and it comes over as being detached from the audience.

When I watch a performance on a show like Idols, I like to see the contestants enjoying the song and really feeling the lyrics, instead of just performing them. When it sounds so rehearsed, I lose interest.

Carla - well Carla was also detached and try as I might, I just can't like her. She was all over the show, that stage jump/drop was a complete mess because again - it was too rehearsed. She kept looking around and not relaxing. And can I just add that she really cannot dance. I don't know who lied to her, but those moves where NOT good. All in all the performance was a disappointment.

Carla

Jody was a disappointment as well. While she was singing I was commenting about her youth beginning to show and then the damn judges agreed with me. I don't know if it is the sound that was the problem or the fact that they keep choosing these HUGE songs instead of choosing songs that are right for their vocal range.

I can't even comment on Yolanda. Definitely the bottom 3 tonight, probably the one to leave.
                                          BABY BYE BYE BYE
Yolanda

Andriette - hmmm was okay, better than last week, not knocking my socks off though but she'll live to see another round.

So bottom3 this week, Yolanda, Carla, Jody. With Yolanda leaving. I'd rather have Carla leave though but it seems she keeps getting saved.

OH - you know that song that Munro sang... When he sang Fi yerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I kept feeling he was missing another heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr on the end. (it was like he sang 2 syllables instead of 3. I haven't heard the song in a while so I could be mistaken) It just felt a bit odd is all I'm saying.

I totally agree.
When it comes to the judges at least Randall knows what he is talking about. I agree with him on every comment he makes. Mara's 'vloer moer' was just too much. It was embarrassing!!!

When it comes to the Idols. Tender is my new favourite, she is the one with the most consistent performances and has the best voice! Like you said Amazingly - "Singing comes effortlessly to her" I still like Andriette although she didn't have the best performances the last two weeks.

Going home tonight - defnitely Yolanda. I cringed when I heard her sing. It was terrible, she couldnt keep up with the rhythm. But when I saw the song choices, I thought - what the heck?? don't think she'll be pulling that off!! And i was right!

So bye bye Yolanda!!

I also thought Munro was missing a syllable --- i thought the first change he did he struggled and thought from then to rather play it safe and not do the last one --- though maybe it was just his interpretation of the song.

looks like it not just the sound, but the voting as well they have managed to mess up..

NUKE - even WITH the mess up and extra "votes" for Yolanda, she's still voted off.

Hope they shape up this week!
