As promised I did mention that I will be bringing you an article with the rest of the dramas happening in the Laan over the past two weeks. This will off course not include the Tokkie storyline since I had already dedicated an entire article to that.

With Robyn off to Nairobi, George takes control of his company once more but this time it seems he’s out to prove to Robyn who’s really the boss. Will this ultimately lead to his failure?

George calls a meeting with his staff and asks them about the projects they have lined up. It seems there’s not much going on and George blames himself for being so obsessed with Robyn that he failed to concentrate on getting new work in. He tells them this is about to change and it looks like the old George is back.

His friend from Delaney phones and tells him about the various functions his boss is planning to thank his staff for their dedication and hard work. George and Altus prepare their pitch and later they get a call to say they’ve landed the contract.

George is all fired and up and even rocks up at Karien’s flat with wine and roses, he plans to wine and dine her and to generally make up for his foul mood over the past few weeks and show her how much he loves her. Needless to say, Karien is a very happy lady, she has her man back.

When Felicity shows Karien her latest designs, Karien is so impressed she orders two outfits. She then suggest to Felicity about having another fashion show but after the last fashion show disaster, Felicity is just not in the mood to plan one again. Just then George and Altus rock up and Karien ask them how they would feel about arranging Felicity’s fashion show, George immediately takes on the challenge but leaves it in Altie’s hands. Altie seems concerned about all the projects George seems to be taking on.

Karien speaks to George about all his latest projects and tells him that it seems he’s trying to prove a point to Robyn and she fears he’s getting in way over his head but George brushes her concerns away.

When Robyn phones, it’s clear she does not want to speak to George and is silent on the phone. She phones Danny on her cell and tells her not to say anything, she questions how busy they are at the offices and Danny tells her they have quite a few projects lined up. When she returns from Nairobi, she’s quite surprised to hear of the big contract that George has landed with Delaney but she’s rather silent on the matter. I don’t like the fact that Robyn is using the innocent Danny, what’s her plans with George anyway?

With Madel acting all strange and being in a totally zombie state, Jan Hedrik decides to surprise her by arranging for the whole family to join Leon and Christelle in Burgundy, France. At first Madel is not happy that her son has made a decision like that on her behalf, she wants to do the controlling you see and she can’t handle that Jan Hendrik is planning her life for her. Dezi is not exactly thrilled about the sudden trip to France, she would rather work than spend time with her family in beautiful France.

No matter how Dezi tries to get out of going, she even tries to make George not grant her leave by claiming they’re not so busy right now but George does not fall for it and encourages her to go. Later when she and Karien discuss the trip to France, Karien like any normal person expresses her delight for Dezi and even wishes that she and George could go away. When its clear that Dezi is not exactly enthusiastic about the trip, their conversation turns to business and how Dezi wish she could do a management course to brush up on her business savvy, like Robyn.

Karien mentions that while Dezi is in France she could cut her holiday short and go to London to find out about the different courses they offer. Karien should never mentioned that, Dezi was like a kid with a new toy and for the first time felt excited about the upcoming trip. Off course JH was not happy when Dezi spoke to him about it and when Madel heard about Dezi’s plans the two get into a major confrontation. Madel accuses Dezi of taking her husband for granted and when JH walks in wanting to know what’s going on, Dezi storms out saying his mother wants him to have a wife who will stay home and have babies, she’s clearly not good enough for him.

Everything seems to going wrong with the trip to France, there’s problems with the visas and this further frustrates JH who feels like cancelling the whole thing. Madel takes control of the situation and tells him that she want to meet with both him and Dezi at the house at 15:00.

At the meeting, Madel apologises to Dezi and tells her to do what makes her happy, the two make peace and everyone’s now excited about the trip to France. The visas are eventually sorted out and off to France the Terreblanches go.

Matrone is in full swing as she prepares for the upcoming Presidential Banquet. After giving everyone a lesson in table manners, she’s out to learn basic conversational skills and to look like a million bucks in the process.

When Paula returns from her adventure camp, Matrone is first to pounce on her and demand she give her tips to look her very best, she is afterall the social and beauty editor of the Times. Paula gives Matrone all sorts of weird combination ingredients to use to maker her skin soft and supple and to give her hair that natural shine.

Next Matrone approaches Kabelo to give her some Xhosa lessons but he’s way too clever for Matrone and tells her he cannot speak the language as he only speaks Sotho. After getting a tongue lashing from Matrone for not speaking the President’s mother tongue, Matrone moves onto her next target, Mandla and Alyce. Too bad for Matrone as Kabelo as already warned them what Matrone’s intentions are. They sneakily worm their way of the situation and Matrone makes her way to Zinzi. Shame Zinzi does not know what’s coming when Matrone hints about her favourite foods, she also falls right into Matrone’s trap when she boasts about getting a distinction in Xhosa. Kabelo was unable to warn her in time and now Zinzi is stuck having to give Matrone Xhosa lessons.

At their first lesson, Matrone has difficulty keeping up but she’s determined to learn the basics. Everyone makes fun of Zinzi having to keep up with Matrone and before you know it, Matrone seems to be gettting the hang of things when she walks past Kabelo and gives him a piece of her mind in perfect Xhosa.

Matrone’s next mission is to ride in style to the Banquet and she scolds Mandla when he even dare suggest she ride in his skedonkel, Matrone will not be riding in a piece of trash, no way not this lady, I mean she is afterall the Dazzling Dame of the Year. She tries her luck by going to Karien and telling her to speak to George about borrowing his car to Mandla for the trip. Karien makes up some kind of excuse on George’s behalf but later tells Matrone the car is not in tip top shape to ride the distance.

Mandla has no alternative but to ask Marko to borrow his car but Marko gives him a hard time saying he and Tamsin (whenever will we get to see this girlfiriend of Marko who rivals Paula in the shallow department) have a date. Mandla promises to fill his car with petrol when he returns but Marko drives a hard bargain and insists on that plus beers and biltong. The two shake hands on it.

Mandla is bent on making the Presidential Banquet as memorable for Matrone as possible when he goes out and buys a nifty new digital camera. Marko tells him professionals only use film and when Matrone hears this, she insists Mandla takes the camera back and replace it with one that uses film. Mandla has no choice in the matter and returns with the new camera but even though he’s quite chuffed with his new toy, he knows jack on how the thing actually works.

Hilda has got it into her head to do something other than all the hobbies she’s already involved in. She feels as an older woman, she needs to be fit and able to protect herself if and when the time comes so she approaches San Mari and questions her about Kata Boxing. San Mari is skeptical at first and suggests Hilda try something along the lines of bowls or something equally meant for the elderly but Hilda insists she needs a challenge and Kata Boxing sounds like just the right thing for her to do. The two agree to meet at class that night and Hilda swears San Mari to secrecy.

That night Hilda tries her best to get Oubaas out of the house and resort to calling him out on his lies for pretending to be sick and not wanting to attend the church council. Oubaas has no choice but to go and Hilda practically throws him out of the flat. Hilda has a big bag as if she’s going away on a trip, whatever would a small thin woman need such a big bag for? A minute later Oubaas returns having forgot his car keys and sees Hilda with the big bag and she covers by saying she’s giving clothing away to charity. Oubaas is very impressed with his naartjie put’s generosity.

The next day we see a very sore and stiff Hilda who makes up all kinds of excuses as to why she’s walking all funny. Naturally Oom Oubaas falls for Hilda’s stories but Maria can sense that Ouma is up to no good and decides to keep a beady eye on her.

San Mari is surprised that Hilda actually enjoyed the class and seems keen to go again. She buys a few active clothing at T&T and later we see Hilda in a very colourful rainbow pair of tights, practicing her moves. Unknown to her, Maria watches through the window and can’t understand what Ouma is up to.

Hilda is in a very chirpy mood as she greets Maria and Aggie at Oppiekoffie. Maria is not fooled by this and tells Aggie about the strange behaviour coming from Ouma lately. That evening Hilda prepares herself as she puts her bag outside by the plants and then goes into the flat to tell Oubaas she’s going out to visit Charmaine. Oubaas insists on joining her but Hilda tells them they need to discuss womanly issues, this only makes Maria shake her head from side to side not understanding why Ouma would lie to Oubaas.

Carlos is doing some shopping in the Laan when who should he bump into? None other than Lana Pauw, remember her from that whole Gecko and Rubra B fiasco? At first she tries to make as if she does’nt see him but he sees her and is genuinely delighted that she’s back in town even if its only for a short while.

There seems to be heavy tension between the two or more like from her side as she tries her best avoid him. Carlos tries to contact her to make a date but he gets nowhere at the Gecko offices. When he eventually bumps into her again, the two decide to chat and she tells him she will be longer in town as she’s covering for a colleague who’s in hospital. She also tells him that she has met someone in Richards Bay and they are dating for about a month. She goes on about the new man making her happy, blah blah blah and this makes Carlos very uncomfortable. I’m not sure if Lana’s telling the truth or if it’s her way not to get close to Carlos again. It’s clear that there is still lots of underlying issues between the two.

Later Lana approaches both Carlos and JH in a business capacity and ask them if they would be interested in carrying Gecko’s new protein bar in the shop. They are at first skeptical after the disaster of last time and they meet with Madel to discuss the proposal. Madel is not so sure if it’s a good idea or not but the boys seem happy enough and she says she will go with their decision. JH tells Carlos to handle the business with Lana but he makes up some excuse about being too busy and tells JH to handle things. Later when Lana and JH meet, she’s curious to know why Carlos is not involved and her disappointment is made very clear in the sound of her voice. She suggest to JH the discuss business over drinks and snacks. What is it with these ladies who just want to do business while intoxicating themselves, last time it was Inge, now its Lana and JH is smiling from ear to ear.

Other things that I’m not sure if its worth mentioning would be Vanessa seeing the nurse from the clinic and literally freezing up indicating that she’s got a hell of a way still to go with her grief over Aubrey. Paula decides to publish the gossip about San Mari and Kurt Darren in her Paula Sizzles column but when she wants to show it to San Mari, she sees a picture of herself in the paper with that ridiculous jersey that Hilda knitted for her. Just then Mandla walks in and everyone starts laughing and making jokes at Paula’s expense. Paula is not very happy and Vanessa quickly calls Hilda over and shows her the beautiful creation in the paper, Hilda is quite pleased and regards it as feather in her cap.

That’s it everyone, tune in for more daily dramas and catch the latest shenanigans from the folks of Hillside.
