What does one do when you have a very devious mistress on your hands literally forcing the issue of a marriage proposal? Ask Gert Van Zyl, he has had his fun cheating on his wife and now that she has decided to divorce him, his mistress Cheryl is desperately seeking a ring on her finger.
Summary for last week:
Monday 11 September
Tokkie tells Inge he’s in Johannesburg for a few days on business. Apparently he did buy the land at Imnyama Bay but he sold it again at an enormous profit to a bigwig who will be developing a golf estate. Inge is happy for him.
A snazzy blue sleeper couch is delivered to Hilda’s flat, it’s a present from Gert and Cheryl. Oubaas tells Gert that he and Hilda will not be giving up their room for him and his lover and Gert tells him it’s ok because the sleeper couch is for them to sleep on until such time they find their own place, hopefully within the next two weeks.
Gert further seals the deal when he hands over rent money to Hilda and pays Maria for her services.
Hmm, so the writers decided to make them less slap worthy this time.
Marko tells Mandla he is broke and needs cash urgently to spoil Tamsin. Just then Inge walks in and tells the boys about Tokkie being back and that he did buy into Imnyama Bay. This news further depresses Marko. Emma walks in and they have no choice but to tell her that her father is back.
Dezi is shocked to hear what the value of Kyriakis De Lange is and Karien suggests to George that he should look into getting another partner but George is not convinced, he’s determined to become a sole owner but it’s looking less likely.
Felicity tells Dezi that she’s not inspired to design and seems despondent about the Vince/Xander situation. Dezi tells her to go after Xander before she loses him and regrets it later. Methinks Dezi is referring to Theuns once again.
Renate decides to go to La Lucia without Nicholas as she refuses to be humiliated whilst he supposedly presents a course. The two start arguing and it’s clear that Renate feels threatened by Madel. Nicholas, angrily storms out of the room.
Marko tells Aggie they need to start printing t-shirts again but Aggie is not keen. Marko convinces her they’ll make heaps of money and he needs it desparately to treat Tamsin as she seems to be getting irritable with him not taking her out.
Seems Marko never learned a thing from the scam that local “foreign” girl pulled on him a few months back. He’s still trying to impress girls by playing rich Mr Nice Guy and we just don’t get to see this Tamsin chick.
Nicholas goes to the Boekwinkel to get some books for his presentations. Predictably, Madel walks in and the two are pleased to see each other. They start chatting enthusiastically and both refer to mistakes they made in their lives. I can only assume they mean getting married to the wrong people and not to each other.
Marko gives Xander some advice on how to catch Felicity, he tells him to use the bulldoze approach. This technique seems to work as we see Xander making his way to the boutique, confronts Felicity in a no–nonsense approach and melts her heart when he tells her how she makes him feel. It’s an aaaah shweeet moment as Felicity responds positively and the two kiss.
Matrone tells Mandla to find out everything about the other finalists and suggests he do an article about all of them.
Tokkie pops in to see Emma and tells her he would like them to get together to talk. She says she’ll check with Ryno and tells him she knows about him and Imnyama Bay but he says it does’nt matter anymore.
When Nicholas returns to the hotel, he’s surprised and dare I say disappointed to find Renate still in town. She tells him she’ll be a fool to leave him alone for two weeks.
Gert and Cheryl return to the flat from their gallivanting and are ready to creep in when Gert notices an official document addressed to him. He’s shocked to find divorce papers from Hendriena’s lawyers and Vlooi looks like the cat that ate the canary.
Tuesday 12 September
Alyce seems to have settled in nicely at the girls’ flat and is spoiling Karien rotten to show her gratitude.
Paula and Altus are all over each other as they return home from their holiday. Paula is hopelessly inlove and feels like the luckiest girl in the world. She’s happy to have Alyce sharing the flat but it’s more for helping with the rent than anything else.
Felicity and Xander try to hide their feelings away from everyone but it’s obvious to all they’re mad about one another. She tells Xander they have to keep their relationship a secret until she tells Vince about them.
Felicity is like that, very considerate although she does’nt owe him a damn thing after the way he cheated on her.
Gert is highly upset about Hendriena wanting to divorce him, it’s more a case of a bruised ego and the fact that she is the one instituting divorce proceedings and not the other way around. He really has a nerve saying how she can let their kids grow up without a father, father my foot, he does’nt know the meaning of the word.
Matrone is not happy to see impressive articles about her rivals in the DD Competition. She promptly tells Dezi to help her polish her image to make her stand head and shoulders above her competitors.
Felicity’s new found love has inspired her to go crazy designing the most stunning outfits. Inge tells her how sad she feels about the break up with Tokkie and there’s no hope for a future with him.
Mandla shows a newspaper article about Tokkie clinching a big deal with a property developer. Just then Tokkie walks into T&T and tells them he’s glad they did’nt buy into the deal as he does’nt have to share any profits. He promises that they’ll be the first to know if he comes across a good deal again. Bet they would’nt doubt him again.
Felicity is in high spirits and gets a call for a huge order. At first she’s concerned about being too busy and not having the time to help Inge in the boutique, but Dezi persuades her to concentrate on the order and not to worry about the boutique. Well, there’s always Alyce that can help out.
Jan Hendrik and Carlos are discussing the boutique’s matters and Carlos breaks it to JH that a new curator has been hired to take over from him.
Karien apologises to George about suggesting he take on a partner and she says she’s willing to allow him to make sacrifices for their future.
Once again, Nicky and Madel bump into each other at the Boekwinkel and after their boring chit chat, Nicky invites Madel to dinner for the following night. Wonder what Renate will have to say about that.
Cheryl tries her best to take Gert’s mind off Hendriena and even hints at expecting a proposal, Gert nearly chokes on his food.
When Emma is really bothered by something, she goes crazy cleaning up. Ryno tells her to forgive her father and not hang onto the mistakes of the past like her mother did. Emma is stubborn and tells him it’s too late, the damage had already been done.
Wednesday 13 September
Altus is warmly welcomed back by George and tells him about wanting to buy Wilmien’s share in KDL. When Dezi and Danny join them, they start joking about Matrone’s campaign preparing to turn her down when she comes knocking.
However, Danny has other plans and sees Matrone’s campaign as the perfect project for her practical studies. George decides to give her the chance to shine.
Hilda hides away from Madel and Maria confronts her about her shame. Hilda says she’s too embarrassed to show her face to Madel, Neville and Dominee Potgieter after the DD scam.
George is very despondent when he returns from the bank. His application for a loan has been rejected due to lack of security and his colleagues try be supportive but changing banks won’t necessarily get him a loan.
Nicholas watches Madel in Oppiekoffie and tries to disappear before she sees him but Ryno starts chatting to him and before long, he and Madel are face to face. They make idle chit chat and he asks her to dinner for that evening, after some unnecessary fuss from Madel, she accepts.
Cheryl makes it clear to Gert that he need not be presumptuous about her saying yes to a marriage proposal from him. She puts pressure on him by hinting at expecting an unforgettable marriage proposal.
Tokkie pops in at the boutique and asks Inge to dinner as they have much to talk about. At first she refuses but eventually gives in as they both agree that they need to discuss their relationship which ended so abruptly.
Karien encourages George to not give up, to try other banks and even suggests speaking to her fathers’ contacts to possibly invest in KDL. George is adamant that he will not take on a sleeping partner again.
Renate is all dressed up waiting for Nicholas, she made dinner reservations for the two of them but Nicky knows nothing about it. He declines the supper invite as he already made plans with Madel to discuss business and things that Renate would’nt possibly be interested in. Renate makes nasty comments about Madel being oh so boring, totally not an interesting person. I’m sure your husband would beg to differ, dear Renate.
Tokkie pour his heart out to Inge, why he chose not to include her, but she explains that she loved him regardless of his deal working out and he tells her that he did not want to repeat the mistakes of the past. He asks her forgiveness and she says she needs time to think things through.
When Felicity sees Xander waiting for her, she tries to get rid of San Mari but she has already caught on to what’s happening between the two. Xander and Felicity act like naughty teenagers.
Nicky and Madel are having dinner and the two reminisce about the good old days. Madel breaks it to Nicky that being married to Stef was horrible, she was never really happy and she admits that she made a mistake. She does’nt elaborate on the “mistake” though, the two just stare at each other with that knowing look.
A rather uncomfortable and worried looking Renate is waiting for her hubby in the hotel suite.
Thursday 14 September
Jan Hendrik questions his mother about her dinner arrangement with the Scotts and she tells him that she and Nicky had dinner alone. Needless to say, Dezi has that suspicious look on her face again and changes the subject.
Matrone comes to see George about helping her out with her DD campaign, she’s even willing to pay for professional services rendered. Mmmmh since when does Matrone pay for something, she normally manipulates herself out of paying for anything.
Imagine the shock on her face when George tells her that Danny will be handling her campaign. A very prepared Danny tells Matrone exactly what she needs from her and she does’nt give Matrone a chance to reject her.
Alyce is still desparately looking for a job and when she goes on about Dezi’s new look, it dawns on Dezi that the boutique needs help now that Felicity has taken on a huge order. The two go over to the boutique, Dezi pitches her pitch to Inge but she says she can’t help Alyce as the boutique is suffering financially.
Felicity saves the day when she offers to stay home to design so that her salary can go to Alyce. Everyone is happy with this arrangement.
Finally Alyce has a job, I was getting tired of her sulky face.
Cheryl is in high spirits about getting married to Gert, she has arranged their marriage classes with the Dominee and she gives Gert ideas of what she wants for her wedding. She hints at the important question that Gert needs to ask but he does his best to block out what she’s saying. Can one get any more in your face than Cheryl, there is absolutely no words to describe this woman.
Emma and Tokkie meet at the Deli and one can cut right through the tension in the room. They talk about non essential things and Emma tells her father she’s glad things worked out for him, she quickly makes her exit before he says anything further.
Zinzi, San Mari and Tessa are gossiping about Xander and Felicity unaware that Felicity can hear everything. She quickly leaves Oppiekoffie only to be confronted by Aggie about her relationship with the Meintjies brothers.
Carlos tells Inge that Sandra’s lawyer will be taking over handling of the boutique and he cannot say what will happen to the place now. She tells him about hiring Alyce in Felicity’s place.
Oubaas congratulates Neef Gert on his upcoming nuptials. Gert tells him that its just talk, nothing has been finalised yet. The two get into a very comical exchange about donkeys and Neef Gert explains that his donkey does not want to drink anymore. Neef Gert can be a real ass sometimes, oh wait he is one, he even admitted this himself.
Felicity tells Xander that everyone is gossiping about them and he tells her that as soon as Vince gets home, he will talk to him before he finds out from everyone else.
For some reason I don’t think this is gonna happen, Vince is sure to find out from the busy bodies of Hillside first and I can’t wait for him to get a taste of his own medicine.
Renate asks Nicky about his date with Madel and not getting the response she wants, she fishes for information about why Madel never remarried and about her relationship with Stef. Nicky angrily tells her to ask Madel herself.
Madel reads the love letter that Nicky wrote to her back when she dumped him to be with Stef. She cries silent tears.
How does the Afrikaans saying go “Ou liefde roes nooit”, well it happens to be true in Madel and Nicky’s case.
Friday 15 September
Cheryl asks Maria and Hilda to help her get Gert to make an honest woman of her. She tells Maria to help with preparations for the night, at a fee off course, and she asks Hilda to go to the movies with Oom Oubaas, she will pay. She needs to have the flat to herself so that she can woo Gert and get him to pop the big question.
Danny tells Mandla she will be handling Matone’s campaign and she will make sure Matrone wins.
Cheryl goes all out when she shops for clothing and underwear at the boutique, preferring a daring outfit with virginal underwear. She needs to show Gert she’s pure and virtuous.
What the f&*ck, Cheryl and virgin don’t belong in the same sentence.
Why does Nicky have a photo of Madel in his wallet? He can’t seem to get her out of his mind as he reads the letter she wrote when she broke up with him. He crumples the letter and throws it into the bin.
I must say that letter still looks good, it must be something like forty odd years old, right?
Ryno bumps into Tokkie and the two get into it as Ryno tells him he’s hurting Emma by hanging around. Tokkie is angry and tells him that Emma needs to accept him for who he is.
Gert gives Mandla and Marko advice about women and his inability to understand them sometimes. He questions why Vlooi would want to suddenly spoil things between them by getting hitched. He blames Hendriena for wanting to divorce laying the field wide open for Cheryl to expect a marriage proposal.
Like I said before, Gert is a dumbass!
Maria gives the bribe money back to Paula and tells her about the postcards being too similar resulting in them being caught out. She warns Paula to fix things before she tells Mr Meintjies.
Nicky retrieves the crumpled letter from the bin, he probably thought Renate would find it. He phones Professor Banks to cancel the workshop, just as Renate steps into the room. He can’t get out of giving the lectures and Renate questions why he would want to when he was dead set on going ahead in the first place.
Hilda rushes Oubaas out of the flat leaving a very nervous Gert alone. He is just about to leave when Cheryl walks in wearing her seductive outfit. She wines and dines him with chocolate fondue, oysters and champagne, yuck! Seems like Cheryl is too much in Hilda’s company, she’s coming up with the most awful food combinations.
Renate visits Madel and tells her about Nicky wanting to cancel the workshop, she’s hoping to find out if Madel knows anything but Madel is none the wiser.
Cheryl is irritated with Gert for not taking the opportunity to ask for her hand in marriage. He makes a huge mistake by telling her that they can have fun instead and she kicks him out of the flat. He goes on his knees begging her to let him in making all sorts of promises except the one that she wants.
Meanwhile, Gert’s begging has drawn an audience as Maria, Paula and some of the other young people watch in amusement. Gert is horrified as he turns around in embarrassment when Paula asks him what’s going on.
Tune in next week to see if Gert will give into Cheryl’s demands for a marriage proposal, whether Nicky and Madel will fall into each others arms, kissing passionately and how Vince will react to his brother “stealing” his girl.
