Season 2

The second season of Mutual Friends builds on the already strong relational foundations that have already been set up between the characters in the first season.

With Facebook as a sometimes invasive and sometimes invited and welcome voice in their lives, the gang gets to explore and perform their deeper selves on both a personal and extremely public level.

Through a series of events that intricately connect their complex lives, the very threads that bind their delicate and sometimes precarious friendships are put to the test in a number of ways and sometimes with far reaching consequences.

In this season, social media becomes more alive as a character in the story. The persona of Facebook is characterised by the collective voice of those who post in response to any number of the topical issues which face young people today, which will be explored in the showJo'burg life as explored through the ears and eyes of its very own rookie second year students.

Intertwined in there somewhere is a budding love story, which involves a complex love triangle between Badanile (Zimkhitha Nyoka), Jabu (Jafta Mamabolo) and newly introduced character, Blessing (Tendaiishe Chitima).

Blessing hails from Zimbabwe. She is from a well-off background and through her we get to explore once again the notion of other, as seen from an outsider's perspective.

Mutual Friends thematically explores what varsity life at Wits University is like for the characters. Not only do we see them live through their daily experiences and various challenges, but we get to see each of them play out their very personal and unique journeys on a social-media stage; the platform which is Facebook.

Created by Muzi Mthembu and produced by MVP Productions, Mutual Friends is executive produced by Betty Mthembu, with series producer Phumelele Mthembu. Norman Maake is a director and the head writer is Lerato Khanye.
