Season 1
Reënboogrant (Rainbow Ridge) is a South African, Afrikaans-language, teen telenovela set in a Tshwane suburb which tracks the chaotic lives, deep family secrets and intense social rivalries of the Brink family and their friends.
Adapted from Louise van Niekerk's 1990s young adult books, this modernised version repositions the timeless coming-of-age story into today's highly connected, social media-driven world.
Shani Brink (played by Minke Marais) dreams of escaping her small suburb for global acting fame.
However, her path is immediately derailed by betrayal, public humiliations and intense high school rivalries.
Sunette (Mila de Villiers), Shani's sister, balances academic pressures, athletic expectations and a series of complicated romantic choices that force her to figure out exactly who she is outside of her family's shadow.
Their older brother Dolf (Paul Strydom) is the school's matric head boy and rugby player.
He constantly fights to keep his composure while navigating a messy secret relationship, leading to violent altercations and taking the fall for his family.
Season 1 focuses on the immediate friction of high school life.
It features wild birthday parties, sports captaincy battles, strict school rules and toxic friend groups trying to navigate the Mei-Dans (May Dance).
In the series premiere: We are introduced to Shani and the diverse community of Reënboogrant.
Tina's scheming causes drama between Shani and Sunette. Meanwhile, Dolf struggles to control his emotions around the fiery Rachelle.
