Season 1

Major Dad is an American television sitcom created by John G. Stephens and Richard C. Okie which follows the story of the dedicated marine Major John D. MacGillis, whose life changes when he meets and falls in love with married reporter Polly Cooper.

The series originally aired in the USA on CBS from 17 September, 1989 to 16 April, 1993. There are 96 half-hour episodes in four seasons.

Major Dad originally aired in South Africa on the SABC in the early 1990s. It premiered on DStv's M-Net Series channel on Saturday 28 March 2009, at 20h00. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

The first season aired on M-Net Series from 28 March to 12 September, 2009. The first two episodes aired on Saturdays at 20h00, but for the third episode it was moved an hour earlier, to Saturdays at 19h00.

This was due to a channel shuffle in April 2009, in which all shows on the channel were moved an hour earlier.

Synopsis

Major Dad follows the story of the single, dedicated marine Major John D. MacGillis, whose life completely changes when he meets, falls in love with and marries reporter Polly Cooper who comes to interview him for an article critical of the marines.

They are opposites: he is orderly, she is not; he is conservative, she is liberal; he is a lifelong bachelor, she has three daughters.

However, their undeniable chemistry leads them to start a new family life together.

But not everything is as easy as it looks...

Polly (and her kids from a previous marriage) have to learn how to deal with being a Marine family, while Major MacGillis has to learn how to be a Dad and balance his hectic family life with his even more chaotic career.
