Description

Last Comic Standing is an American reality competition television series created and produced by Peter Engel in which stand-up comedians compete in weekly elimination challenges until one is left standing, who receives a development contract with the NBC television network as first prize.

The series premiered in the USA on NBC on 1 June, 2003.

The series premiered in South Africa on DStv's M-Net Series channel on Thursday 27 April 2006, at 21h00. It was moved to DStv's Mzansi Magic channel from the seventh season and later aired on SABC2. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast times and dates.

Season 7 premiered on Mzansi Magic on Friday 3 June 2011, at 23h00. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 10 episodes in the seventh season.

Synopsis

Last Comic Standing features a nationwide talent search for professional and non-professional comedians (both male and female). Each season sees new comics trying to keep their sense of humour while being holed up in a house together.

The series begins with a nationwide search for comics across the US that culminates in finalists showing off their skills at venues in New York and Las Vegas.

The 10 most stand-up of them are then chosen from the rabble and the rest of the series follows them as they stand-up to see who has what it takes to make an audience hysterical and win their votes.

The prize up for grabs is a development contract with the TV network NBC, which includes their own Special on one of NBC's cable channels.
